looks like its the same as init from live trunk.

ok, there can I get the sample of bi2 (for plus?)
Don't understand how bi2 was flashed into WD (sigmblocki?). Is the last f/w for Live based on 1.05.04 ready to flash bi2 just if see this file on flash.. Or need make newest f/w from 1.05.04 svn live trunk and only with this f/w in two steps content of .bi2 image was flashed into WD? Looks like init only mount bi2 part if its already exists in sigmblocki. But when it was flashed before? :)

The flashing is done after the firmware update if I remember correctly.
The user places the bi2 file on the same usb drive with the firmware and issues an update. On first reboot the init script or something called from init will see if the blocki partition contains a valid filesystem (and mounts it if it does) or downloads/copies a valid bi2 file and flashes it (I think flashing is done by dd-ing the file to blocki).

Again, I don't remember a lot of specifics - I mostly overheard b-rad describing the process more than a year ago...

If you grep for blocki or bi2 in /etc you should find the relevant pieces of code in the plus trunk.

The live may have some bi2 support built in, but it still has apache and the other binaries in the main firmware...

And, if you want to play with it, you should start with the current svn version and make sure the image you generate is small enough to be flashable...

Heard it many times, but have never seen any concrete numbers, what should be the maximum size of the firmware img. :)

About 91MB, but I don't know the exact value. It should be either printed at boot somewhere in dmesg as an offset for the sigmblockX partition it comes from, or you should be able to find it with fdisk -l and calculate it from the available blocks.

I don't want to spoil any plans but if I remember correctly the bi2 image is different from the normal fw image...
b-rad told/send me some specs back then but I just can't find my notes on bi2 file structure.

I will keep looking for those! I fI find something I will make it available to you.

Ok. I run WDTVExt on fresh svn 1.05 f/w version.
Yes, looks like it work, but I see the menu interface is more retarding if WDTVExt work (only VolumeControl active).
I'm wrong or its true?

See unpack / repack bi2 I just posted. The bi2 image is indeed different from the normal fw image.
