Layout Suggestions

Postby CrashX » Thu Apr 15, 2010 9:25 am

First of all, Excellent Site and I am sure glad someone steped up created another forum since old forum was driving me nuts with server errors.

Just a couple of Suggestions:

1) Add register link .. Maybe where the login link is ... It looks a while to figure out how to register ... :oops: :oops:

2) How is this layout for Homebrew Central:

General Questions
-> WDTV
-> WDTV LIVE
Applications
WDTV
-> Application Repositority ( App.bin )
-> OSD
-> Web
WDTV LIVE
** Application Repositority ( App.bin )
** WDTVExt
-> Bugs
-> Requests
-> Plugins
** OSD
** Web
Hardware
-> WDTV
-> WDTV LIVE
-> OTHER

Please change the forum font to Verdana. Don't know how it looks under Linux but I find the Trebuchet family a little too dense and distracting.
No idea what font is actually rendered but in other words: Same fonts as wdtvforum

i'll look into the font issue today.

@craxhX, that leads to the forum index page being twice as long as it is now. While it might be a bit coutner-intuitive to not have specific WDTV1, WDTVL, & WDTVG2 subforums I think its a bit better how it is.

It is open to discussion though. ;)

Minor usability issue for forum.

When you go into a section of the forum that is divided by hardware bye,

It is like this:

WDTV1
WDTV2
WDTVLive
______________________
Active Message 1
Active Message 2
etc

The problem is, you can't tell which device the active messages go to. Maybe just turn off the Active message function or if possible add which subsection they were posted to to the active messages list.

if someone with graphical skillz wants to make three seperate icons then we'd have a way to tell :mrgreen:

Probably just WDTV 1, WDTV G2, and WDTV Live icons would be enough.

Would this satisfy you?

I agree we should turn off Active Posts. It is quite confusing to know where the post is coming from. This is first time I have seen this used in forums.

How about we separate sections into devices:

WDLXTV-G1
->General Discussion ( Sticky FAQ Link )
->Application Release
->Firmware Release
->Hardware
->Development
->->General Discussion ( Sticky Development FAQ Link )
->->OSD
->->Movie Sheet
->->Web

WDLXTV-G2
->General Discussion ( Sticky FAQ Link )
->Firmware Release
->Application Release
->Hardware
->Development
->->General Discussion ( Sticky Development FAQ Link )
->->OSD
->->Movie Sheet

WDLXTV-LIVE
->General Discussion ( Sticky FAQ Link )
->Firmware Release
->Application Release
->Hardware
->Development
->->General Discussion ( Sticky Development FAQ Link )
->->WDTVExt
->->->General Discussion
->->->Plugins
->->->Bugs
->->->Requests
->->WDTVL
->->Web
->->OSD
->->Movie Sheet
->->->General Discussion
->->->ThumbGen

which moviesheets though? :lol: Thar be the dilemma. I'm investigating whether I can have different default views that cluster all the appropriate subforums--I'll figure something out.

You have lots of feedback crashX, want to be a mod?

The font looks a bit spaced out to me, but if everyone else likes this look then that is how it will stay ;)

I do agree the other style looked a bit 'cramped' in places though.
