WD 1TB Elite / FS -> ext3 / mounted but not visible in menu

Postby djolek » Sat Oct 09, 2010 8:16 am

Hi all,

In the past i had several problems with my WD 1TB USB Drive formated with NTFS and attached to the WDTV Live (with the WTLXTV Version). Filesystem Errors, never ending Media Library task and so on. So I decided to change the Filesystem and decided to use ext3.

At the beginning it appeared not under "USB2" it was directly mounted. It worked but I was not able to manage the files on the disk. To solve this problem I made some down and upgrades (0.4.2.2 -> 1.02.21 -> 1.01.17 and back) but now the ext3-fs is mouned but not visible in the menu. Here's the output of the telnet-session:

Code: Select all

Has anybody an idea (exept to format the usb-disk with ntfs)?

A tool to converte from ext3 to ntfs could also be usefull.

Thanks!

To format again may be a good hint but that's what I don't want to do. have you seen the df-output 860 GB of Data have to be copied or backup-ed before.

Thanks, but that's not helpful for me.

you can not convert without re-format, you have to backup your data for sure

Sure, I understand what I have to do. But, under my Ubuntu the harddisk runs well. Currently I'm doing an fscheck. And it worked some days ago also with my wdtv live (with the wdlxtv 0.4.2.2 version). Is there a special reason why I have to format it with g-parted?

My WD 1TB hard drive picks up fine. Formatted to NTFS and never had to reformat.

Well, I had several problems. The first, gparted had really problem with the WD Elite USB Drive. I don't know why, maybe the emulated cd-rom is the reason. After a frustrating evening i decided to format the disk with ntfs and now it works. Its a little bit confusing that the wdtv live has problems with a linux file-system and a windows filessystem runs well.

you have to understand why can't format in ext3 with g-parted... if no go, try some other program, or with a linux live cd
