if you want to play around then download ext3-boot-live and boot root.bin off a flash device. Its a writeable-root development version of wdlxtv-live, 100% of the files are exact--except for the ones that identify versioning.

Another tip:
Don't know how the "real" OSD modders go about it but I used Photoshop to get a feel for the placement of the objects.
Just create rectangular shapes on seperate layers for each XML element on a 1280*720 canvas (Preset: Film/Video -> 720p).
This takes some time but it really helps bringing the abstract coordinate values into perspective.

This includes a bit of code to keep themes compatible between wdlxtv-live & wdlxtv-g2. Look in the init.d script inside the osd.bin to see the extra files you'll have to skin if you want both G2 & Live.
