How to make a custom translation

Does the WDTV Live or G2 not contain your native language? It is possible to add new localizations to wdlxtv-live and wdlxtv-g2.

If you'd like to make your own localilzation you have to do the following:
* download empty-translation-live-g2.zip
* use an editor to modify empty.po and fill in all of the translations
* compile the language file


To compile a langauge file you can use msgfmt on Linux and poedit (i believe) on windows.

If you don't want to compile it yourself then there is another option as well. wdlxtv-live & wdlxtv-g2 will both compile po files at boot and mount them over the asian localizations. To follow this method see this page, then ftp in and download /tmp/custom-language-01.mo, and rename it to your countrys two letter abbreviation.

It is very important that your po file be in UTF-8 format.

Once you've completed a translation, then make a thread and share it here

If multiple people confirm that your translation is sound, then I'll include it in the fw and you can set your localization by the following command:

the above sets the localization to NL, which is one translation currently available through S00custom-options but not from the built in menu

The attached file contains all the strings (i believe) from both WDTV Live and WDTV G2. If you already have a WDTV Live translation file, you can add the following strings to make it G2 compliant:

I'm trying to make a translation to catalan.(is one of the languages inside of spain and the official language of ANDORRA)
i used the empty.po file, and i fill the file as this example:

edited 2: i deleted the duplicated, and at the moment, no errors in compilation, i put UTF-8 in the CHARSET value, but no result, in the config file appears LOCALE="ca" but the menu is in english.
i used poedit for windows, and i have the ca.mo file, and i put via ftp in /tmp/ but, the menu is always in english
Edit 3: the 2 files: Edit: deleted links because are obsolete i tried to put in the root of a usb disk, and power cicle, always in englis!!!

i tried to copy to the root directory as said in :http://b-rad.cc/1112/wdlxtv-live-0-3-3/#custom-translations but is read-only, i can't write the file.

2 tips: the links of sp.po and empty.po in http://b-rad.cc/1112/wdlxtv-live-0-3-3/#custom-translations don't exist, can you add for an example?

did you rename ca.mo to custom-language-01.mo when you placed it in the root of your usb disk? Did you then go into the menu and select the first asian language as your option? If you didn't do both of those then it will not work, theres no magic goin on

I have not changed the name, I thought that was an example.(the name of the files)(i put the files as ca.mo, not to custom-language01.mo) sorry, today I'm gonna try and tell you something. thank you very much for your help. (And your patience).

Another team has already produced the hungarian translate to the WD TV Live with fw v0.4.2.0, but it has a lot of bug (Hard to understand...,and mistranslation) and has some missing messages.
I used your template to make my hungarian transtlation, but I found some duplicates in your template. If somebody want to translate into another language delete one of the duplicated items, otherwise the msgfmt print some error The following msdid-s are duplicated in the empty template:

Add only at the end of ile the messages specific for WDLXTV firmware.
Should be identified easlily. Ex string

is in the middle of po file. Create a specific section for all WDLXTV messages at teh end of file.

The string

msgid "Font powered by Arphic®, WDLXTV logos by Pennhaven"

is not necessary now?

I propose to all translators some tools to check the consistency translation.

NOREPAD++
Notepad++ (or other editor that work with Unicode) to edit strings and use search/replace funcion.

POEDIT
Poedit to check the duplicated strings and consistency.
Note: POEdit sometimes alter the strings 8ex. substitute \n with a carriage retuirn). In this case it's better to save acopy of the .po file before to open and save with PIEDIT file to check the duplicate strings).

QT LINGUIST
Qt Linguist can check the accelerator (if present) consistency and the end punctation differences.

Please note that QT Linguist adds tags to the file which probably are not compatible with the LIVE so when checking for punctuation errors it's best to also open the .po in Notepad++ (which also can set the UTF BOM type correctly) and ALT-TAB between both progs and make changes in the latter.

BTW, I've finished my revised edition of 1.03.22 using the original po from the beta firmware adding these missing strings:
