Opions on supported wireless usb adapters?

Postby rgalka » Thu May 03, 2012 12:23 pm

OK.. so I have to accept that I can't use any of the usb wireless adapters that I have since they are not on the "approved list" :(

So I tried to find some of them on Amazon, and couldn't fine half of them. Any opinions on which of the adaptors to try and/or which ones to stay away from? Smallest / cheapest one prefered. :)
Not trying anything fancy.. just want to have access to the usb drive connected to the WDTV so I can send new movies to it from my pc. Ethernet works fine, but pc and tv are not close and the boss (wife) doesn't want wires running under carpets and such. :D

What to I have? WDTV Live Plus (1.05.04_B-WDLXTV-Plus-0.5.1.1) with a WD Elements 2T directly connected.

Thanks for any thoughts.

have you tried any of the adaptors you have

people have noted adaptors not on the list sometimes work, it depends on the chipset, firmware, etc

it will either work or not work
there's no inbetween

I've got
Linksys Wireless-N USB network adapter with dual-band WUSB600N Ver 2
bought refurbished for like $15

I've read a lot of other people have the same

but the biggest difficulty is that ver #
manufactures change hardward, etc and a different version # may not work

Well I have a similar one.. Linksys WUSB54G ver 4. Not an N type... is that a requirement?
I did plug it in. The green light comes on but doesn't blink. On the config menu I tried the auto and manual modes (filling in the addresses) and neither worked. Then I saw mention of some wireless mod apps, downloaded but haven't tried.

N is not a requirement

surprised the light came on, but sounds like it doesn't work

with the PLUS, there's no wireless mods
it either works or doesn't work

OK.. thanks for your time.. I did see the one you mentioned available on eBay for $15. I'll probably just get that one. I was just seeing some of the "approved list" ones costing way more than I wanted to spend.

Thanks again.
