2. No there isn't, there is a debian squeeze image around which some of the devs use for compiling on WDTV:http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=494
But it's a chroot image, you can't really boot into this image.
This is nice for native compiling on WDTV but if you need kernel sources or if you want to compile kernel modules I prefer cross-compiling using WD toolchain.
