Need Noob instructions for rm /conf/* so netflix can work

Postby zonakings » Sat Apr 28, 2012 4:58 pm

I have 2 wd tv live plus boxes. I've had one for a while and just recently found the b-rad firmware that fixes some complaints I've had. Install was flawless. Then I the second box just arrived and I made the mistake of instantly updating the firmware. Now I get an error in netflix that states, "We're having trouble playing this title right now. Please try again later or select a different title." I did some searching on this forum and found that apparently you have to watch netflix with the original firmware for about 5 mins so the config is setup correctly, in order to avoid the error I got.

Then I found people saying to correct it you simply have to:
rm /conf/*
reset machine
install new firmware
watch netflix for 5 mins
resinstall new firmware

So here's my problem....what the $#^% does rm /conf/* mean? I'm pretty sure it means to remove the config directory or the contents of it but how do I execute such a thing? I'm sorry I'm a noob but please speak noobish to me. I have searched through the forums and can't find that this is answered already and if it is, I apologize.

Or if any of you know an easier way to resolve my error then please let me know.

by the way, I think I need to telnet into the WD TV box....but when I do I get get a "connection refused" error in puTTy or a "could not open connection to host on port 23" error.

-Edit- I think this is because I had already backed out the b rad firmware so it doesn't have telnet. I'll put the firmware back on and retry.

Once you got WDLXTV running again, go to webend, click on WDLXTV Config, select Config tab and click Reset Everything.

I did get it working. For the other noobs out there, this is what I did:
1. kept the b-rad firmware update on the box so it had telnet
2. enabled telnet on my windows 7 pc
3. in a command prompt, typed, "telnet 192.168.0.25" (that was the ip address to the wdtv box)
4. then typed, "rm /conf/*" It appeared like nothing happened but i didn't get any errors so I just went with it
5. reset the box by pushing and holding in the reset button for a few seconds till it rebooted
6. installed the official firmware from the wdtv website
7. at this point, netflix now worked :D and before the telnet stuff even when i rolled back the firmware it wouldn't, so i knew i was on the right track
8. i watched netflix for a few minutes then installed b-rad's firmware and everything works awesome-like.

cheers

Using the web method suggested by recliq is more reliable. If you were to reset your box too soon after doing an "rm /conf/*", there's a chance it wouldn't be written back to nvram yet, and everything would be back on the next reboot.
