@ RMerlin

I agree, and I just downloaded the latest official flashable firmware for my wdtv live and I also installed the stable optware from brads homepage. But as you can see above in the quote box, somehow the ipkg pptp is not working.

Ok, poptop is definitely not a client, it is a proggy for setting up an pptp server, right? Because thats what said about this package when I looked in the optware respiratory. This is also the reason why I came up with ppp, because it said that it is a client. But anyway it gives me this errors, mentioned above. I mean this error messages link to fundamental problems, so it would be glad if someone, who sits at the source of those programms, more likely you RMerlin, could help me out a bit here?

I can guarantee you that I didnt do anything stupid regarding flashing the firmware or using the proper optware version.

I was using this wdtv firmware: http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=6103 and this optware version: http://b-rad.cc/binaries/opt.bin.tgz.

Thats it!

VPN.

Yes, poptop is a server, not a client.

Can't help you any further with optware, I never really used it. I know the WDLXTV implementation was a hacked one, not guaranteed to always fully work without workarounds.

In any case, you don't need optware for a PPTP client. The app.bin b-rad posted at the start of this thread should be all that's needed.

EDIT

Ok, I could fix it by installing devtools. Funny, for me it worked, but obviously not for the guy a few pages back in this thread, even though I have installed
the same firmware in the same way....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi RMerlin.

ok, I installed the pptp from brad, but then if I want to start it via webend or ssh -> "pppd call strong-vpn", it gives me this error:

Code: Select all
# pppd call strong-vpn
pppd: error while loading shared libraries: libpcap.so.0.8: cannot open shared o
bject file: No such file or directory

and this in the webend if I want to start the pptp:

Code: Select all
config saved val:key => (PLUGIN_WEBDIRS,VKeyboard|/apps/virtualkeyboard/VKeyboard,mt-daapd|/usr/share/mt-daapd,nzbgetweb|/usr/share/nzbgetweb,rtorrent|/usr/share/rutorrent,umsp|/usr/share/umsp)
config saved val:key => (PLUGIN_WEBDIRS,VKeyboard|/apps/virtualkeyboard/VKeyboard,mt-daapd|/usr/share/mt-daapd,nzbgetweb|/usr/share/nzbgetweb,rtorrent|/usr/share/rutorrent,umsp|/usr/share/umsp,pptp|/apps/pptp/usr/share/pptp)
/apps/pptp/bin/pppd: error while loading shared libraries: libpcap.so.0.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Do you know what I can do?

VPN.

libpcap was moved to devtools, so you have to install devtools.app.bin as well.

Hi recliq,

I installed the pptp and also the vpn client from brad, I configured them and they are temporarily working, but the version of both is not recognized in the wec - its said unknown version.

And if I start them and use youtube, first the connection is slow, but they do their job and then after a few videos, usually 3 or 4, my wdlxtv gui is freezing, so I cannot control it anymore by remote control and so on. The only thing is that you ssh in and reboot it, because nothing is working anymore - no eiri, no telnet, no remote control.

I had the same problem with the 0.4.7.3 firmware. I think there is something fishy with these both apps. What do you think?
I also reported this problem to Spazlon once before, but it was over his qualifications.

Do you know if there is any good vpn client in the ipkg respiratory; I could only find a vpn server proggy.

That's normal, as this app.bin was built before recliq and I established the new app.bin format standard.

This is quite hard to debug from the 'outside' for multiple reasons:

a) I don't use neither (Open)VPN nor PPTP
b) I don't have any comercial VPN accounts to test with
c) this might be an issue with your network setup, since this is the first time i heard of this problem

I only tested the OpenVPN.app.bin against my own server and had no problems...

Maybe a user actually using this can help out with some more troubleshooting tips.

Are you using express vpn reviews?
There may be some infects on strongvpn, so that result can be negatives.
