Plugin: Reloader Plugin (Udated 2010/06/23)

Postby recliq » Mon Jun 14, 2010 12:41 pm

Ok,

it's me again addressing all WDTVExt developers.
I think you really might like this little plugin, it enables you to reload any loaded WDTVExt plugin from OSD menu 8-)
There are still several situations while developing plugins where you have to reboot but a lot of reboots can be saved by reloading when you tweak your script.

INSTALL:
Extract the appended archive to your plugins folder and reboot/pwercycle.

USAGE:
After reboot you should see a new menu item called Plugins, entering this you will see a list of all loaded plugins.
By selecting the desired plugin it will be reloaded. If the reload fails due to errors in the plugin the menu icon will be changed and you will be able to re-try loading this plugin (hopefully after searching and correcting the error).
New: You will now be notified via OSD if the plugin reloaded correctly or if it failed to load.

History
- v1.0.5 added OSD messages, changed menu icons
- v1.0.4 rewrote reload function, added ability to load plugin which previously failed to reload
- v1.0.3 fixed plugin not loading correctly, changed to use own Top menu (Plugins)
- v1.0.2 added try{} around include()
- v1.0.1 fixed reload function
- v1.0 initial release

known issues
When you reload a plugin which is not loading correctly, it is removed from the plugin list and you have to reboot to load it again.
I'm trying to fix this...so you can retry loading your plugin if it failed to load. fixed.

Comments welcome

This will come in handy... At the moment when I plug in a new hard drive, when the Live has booted with another hard drive, the media navigation plugin behaves erratically... Maybe this will help... Will test later

Does this work with ext3 boot only? Using the flashed wdlxtv firmware, the menus are fine, but it doesn't seem to work...

Haven't tried with non ext3 yet, not shure, although it should work the same. I will have a look at this.
What do you see in /tmp/dmaosd.log when you try to reload a plugin?

Ther's no OSD message yet. But you should see the reload in /tmp/dmaosd.log.

recliq thanks for the updated version,
I replaced the previous version with this current v1.0.2
I have noticed the new version has 2 js files and results in multiple menu's for the reloader plugin, I'm guessing one is the previous version and 1 is the current, maybe I'm wrong, but I can't check since my daughter took over :) supose that's fine I'll check it later when she's done

I'm sorry i was a bit tired when i comipled the zip. The second plugin was a test and is not working (Reloader2.plugin.js), just delete it
I corrected the archive in the first post.

recliq no problem, we all appreciate your work, I've got bit more feedback for you

the second plugin you removed from download also caused power on, from standby to become non-functional, led's would come on but would blink indefinetely, and system would never reach any type of display, hope that helps in your work for the new version

as for the correct reloader just released, it doesn't load at all, so getting rid of the reloader2.plugin.js resolved wake from standby via power button on remote, resolved multiple menu items for reloader plugin
however now there's no menu items for the reloader
deleted reloader from plugin folder, and cleaned drive, downloaded updated reloader, still doesn't show any menu's for reloader
