Question WDTV Live Streaming Gen 3 Model WDBHG70000NBK

Feature Requests and Proposals for inclusion into WDLXTV-Live

There are two problems:
1. Technical issues - the live streaming has the OSD in an encrypted partition and it would be difficult (but not impossible) to get it out
2. Safety issues - the live streaming deletes its online services keys if it boots with a non-original firmware. This is a deliberate attempt by WD to stop homebrew on its devices. Due to this the current team does not intend to port wdlxtv to the new devices - because flashing wdlxtv would cripple your player.

I am sure people who are motivated enough will try to do it anyway, and I am sure some may succeed. But those releases (even if they are based on wdlxtv), will not be supported by the current wdlxtv team.

Sorry about this, but it's WD's choice. My advice for people wanting to buy a media player and interested in the features of wdlxtv is to either buy an older/refurbished live/plus or to ask b-rad for advice on what hardware they can get (I am sure he can recommend something worthwhile).

for those devices, you're probably best searching the net to see if somebody has done it already

What exactly do you have in mind when saying modd? Is WDLXTV not modd enough? ;)
If you think of completely write a new OSD or even new firmware with kernel etc...: No, not possible without Sigma SDK (which costs a couple of thousands of dollars).

@mdmm: I suspect that if you do a hardware mod you might be able to remove the restrictions on deleting the playback keys for online services in case it runs a non-standard firmware. But I wouldn't know where to start, and most likely you would need to have some inside information about the SOC used, and to be able to capture data on the data bus...
So, it's probably not feasible.
