I've been doing some more tests:
  • Reseting the configuration and booting .rootFS -> won't boot
  • Reseting the configuration and booting root.bin -> won't boot

I really don't know why, specially the root.bin option.

Anyway, earlier today I got a new 4GB pendrive just for the WDTV, and a small cheap USB hub. The good news is:
  • Booting .rootFS from the pendrive -> check!
  • Booting .rootFS from the pendrive connected to the USB hub and sharing the port USB2 with the wifi dongle -> check!

I'd love to know what's wrong with the boot.bin method in the 1TB disk, but well... who knows...

Now, there's something that I'd like to check with you: as I didn't know if the pendrive was going to be recognized as sda or sdb, y set ROOT_UUID with it's uuid. The boot went fine, in the end the pendrive ended up being sdb (which is kind of logic, as it is attached to the port USB2, maybe I should exchange ports between the hub and the disk just to be safe). I suppose that the WDTV boot from there because I forced the ROOT_UUID. The thing is: the WDLXTV Config page at the WEC has this warning in yellow in the header:
Code: Select all
Invalid ROOT_UUID value: 'ea5266e1-61fe-4f4d-816a-2d71d550740d', changed to ''. Please verify and save.

Why? That UUID is the one I get with blkid. Why is it invalid? Why is it being cleared? Is it being really cleared? If I grep /tmp/conf/config, ROOT_UUID has the correct value (is not empty). I tried a couple of times writing it again with config_tool, and saving the configuration, but when I refresh the WEC it keeps showing the warning.

I am in version 0.5.1.1 1.05.04_V_WDLXTV_LIVE.
Sorry for my English, I am French.
In the file-options S00custom linksheet I activated "c-config_tool LINKSHEETS = ON" and I'm in the mode sheet.
All films are in a Synology NAS
The tree structure in the NAS is the next
Video
--- HD_Movies
-------.Folder.jpg
--------.HD Movies_sheet.jpg
--------.aaa.jpg
--------.aaa.mkv_sheet.sheet.jpg
-------- aaa. mkv
--------.bbb.jpg
--------.bbb.mkv_sheet.sheet.jpg
-------- bbb. mkv
SD_Movies
--------.Folder.jpg
--------.SD_Movies_sheet.jpg
--------.ccc.jpg
--------.ccc.mkv_sheet.sheet.jpg
-------- ccc.mkv

When I scroll through the movies in the Movies folder HD or SD Movies everything is working properly. The sheets of the movies are displayed correctly.
When I scroll through the folders SD_Movies, HD_Movies in the Video folder. The folders are displayed, but it displays an image of a movie sheet without apparent logical. I want displayed. "Movies SD_sheet.jpg" but it not possible.
I cannot understand the logic display.
Can You help me?

srt subtitles on mkv videos

Postby joaorsfonseca » Tue Apr 03, 2012 7:16 am

Hi all..

I've installed this version. I'm now facing some troubles when playing Mkv videos. I can't get my external srt subtitles. Is there any known problem regarding mkv with external subtitles?

Thanks! Great job..

There isn't any issue with srt subtitles, but the subtitle name has to match the movie name to be picked up. For instance, this will work:
Code: Select all
movie.mkv
movie.srt
movie.language.srt
movierandomblabla.srt

Take care that linux is case sensistive, and Movie.srt will not be recognised!

External subtitles isn't fully support with DLNA. Only some devices can support them (such as Samsung TVs), and not all of them do it the same way. It's possible the WDTV doesn't support them.

Bad news :(

I've installed this version to resolve this problem but it continues :(

Can anyone confirm what RMerlin said??

Yup, DLNA, by default does not transport subtitles - only media files. Internal subtitles work because they are fetched with the media file.
Samsung's DLNA has some proprietary bits that enable sending subtitles from their streaming server to their receivers. This method doesn't work with the WDTV.

If you need external subtitles, use Network Sharing with either Windows Shares or NFS and subtitles will work.
