Slideshows ?

I am the new proud owner of a WD TV Live Plus device and would like to use it to display slideshows when I am not watching a movie.
Is there a way to have slideshows that would randomly access my picture folders (Year-Month-Day) and then display ALL pictures in the folder before going on to the next random folder ?
Or is there a way to build a playlist of folders to be shown in order, and for each folder, always make sure to show all the pictures.

doesn't have direct slideshow support, but you can create a video and it will play it
I do mean to get back to this and try a few more things, but I'm not entirely sure slideshow support is possible/practical

and how's that going to work

WD only has 1 screensaver that's hardcoded into dmaosd
an osd mod can replace the single image but that's it

as for the videoscreensaver I did, I skip all that by using upnp-cmd to play the video at the appropriate time
however upnp-cmd in all of my testing would not play an entire folder, only single files

I do have some idea's to test, but don't know if they will actually work
example creating a playlist.m3u of .jpgs to do a slideshow, does upnp-cmd work with playlist, I don't have any playlist, so haven't tried yet

alternative would mean the script would have to load an array of .jpg's from the selected folder
then individually sent the upnp-cmd
which I actually expect will have some timing issues as well

I read the initial use case differently "when I am not watching a movie." --> he did not state that the pics need to pop-up automagically when not watching Therefor with a crontask looking every 5 second if there is a vid playing, if not, send IR commands home-pictures-local folders-pick-first-one and <play>. That then starts the jpg play?

Maybe I should stick to coffee anyway

yeah, created a working playlist only to learn that upnp-cmd does not accept playlist

so I took a look at the webplayer.app.bin

this should be able to produce a slideshow of any type of media

however, it's written in perl
since I have no perl skills at all

I've asked the creator Martin_L , if he could create a modified version
he's agreed to work on it, but has no time at the moment so it will be a while before we can even begin testing
