A 6 month old kernel is in the 1.06.16 GPL fff!!!!

This kernel DOES NOT EVEN SUPPORT 3TB HDD'S!!!

So by installing the GPL kernel you irreparably destroy your plus's capability to wathc Netflix, but you also run the risk of destroying content on 3TB hdd's!

Compare this to the 1.03.49 kernel, which might have issue with 3TB hdd's, but which allows you to watch Netflix and has NONE of these pathetic restrictions

This is bullshit.

Did you check what's in the GPL LAM kernel? The BaseFW is slightly newer (1.06.18), so it could also be different.

I got it working also.

I will stress one thing here;

get it working on WD firmware before going to WDLXTV!!

it does work, be patient, you will have to re-enter all your settings again but that is a lot cheaper than getting a new plus!
good luck, take it slow and follow b-rad's instructions and you will have netflix again soon enough!

Cheers and thanks for the fix instructions b-rad.
I wasn't interested in netflix personally but it seems the wife and kids were, for 8 bucks a month, I will likely keep it for them..

Hello b-rad.cc
Thanks for all your work, I really appreciate it
I've never create an netflix account ( the service is available in my country starting today)
I have 0.5.0.0
If I understand this correctly, I can create a backup of my conf folder, and then try to get into netflix, if that do not work I should follow the steps of the addendun, is that correct?

Or should I follow the steps first and install the safe fff?
Thanks!

b-rad.cc wrote:If you fully backup /conf/ and can still watch netflix then you're ok. The described scenario only applies to those who have permanently lost Netflix.

I had Netflix on 0.5.0.0 for quite some time and it was only when I was messing around that I deactivated myself...and once I deactivated myself Netflix could never be activated again.

It is fully possible that with a full backup of /conf/ you can restore Netflix to your device in the case of deactivation. This has yet to be determined however.

For now this is what is suggested:
- flash WDLXTV-PLUS-0.4.7.3
- telnet/ssh in and do the following:
Code: Select all
cd /
tar -zcvf /tmp/full-conf-backup.tgz /conf/*

the above statements will create a file in /tmp with your full contents.

- ftp to your wdtv and download full-conf-backup.tgz somewhere safe
- never lose it

All future WDLXTV-PLUS releases will contain the fff from 0.4.7.3, which is the last 'safe' fff there is on Plus. The only downside to this is that there is no 3TB hdd support.

ADDENDUM
Ok, so after making this long winded post it appears that recovering netflix is stil possible.

Yes, after messing with this thing and doing 100 different reflashes 100 different ways it appears to not be quite as bad as implied

So heres my little apology for flying off the handle. While the 1.06.16_B GPL kernel is an antiquated POS without 3TB hdd support it DOES NOT irreparably destroy your plus.
....

here is a safe wdtvlive2.fff you can flash with 0.5.0.0 after getting Netflix towork

I just got my device the other day, loaded 0.5.1.1 and fired up Netflix. I was able to enter my account info and browse my instant queue. However when I attempt to play a movie, it attempts to load it, and then it comes back after a long time saying that title is currently unavailable (something like that). I just found this thread after searching for why it isn't working. Is this related or do I have a different issue?

Like b-rad wrote it is related, but you have to get Netflix up and running on the official firmware first...

Yeah, I tried reflashing back to original fw but it would not activate. I exchanged it for a new unit and now see what it was supposed to do. It right to the activation screen and connected up just fine. I think I'm going to wait until WD releases an updated kernel to the community before I try and flash again. Unfortunately I need netflix to keep my kids happy. :(

b-rad.cc:

Thanks for the instructions, I was able to recover my Netflix access successfully. A question though.... I installed 1.5.04_B and I lost my Netflix access. Was this version supposed to have the "updated" fff file in it already or is it due to come still?

Thanks for all your hard work, looking forward to the next release.

I have the same question, upgraded to latest firmware : 1.05.04_B-WDLXTV-Plus-0.5.1.1 and netflix is broken now.
Do this firmware not include the correct fff for netflix? Should I downgrade, reactivate and resinstall with the fff linked by rmerlin?
Thanks

Same thing just happened to me. Latest firmware ( 1.05.04_B_WDLXTV.COM_EXT3-BOOT_PLUS-0.5.1.1.zip ) and lost Netflix. No Icon, could not find it anyware. Had to put latest STOCK firmware ( wdtvliveplus_1.06.16_B.zip ) to get it running.
Could use an update so folks do not continually run into this, or a wiki update or a README update.
Please. thank you
