I want to update my unit to 0.5.1.1, before that would like to know if are there some advantages/feature of latest official stock firmware over 0.5.1.1?

Read the 1.06.16 Changelog, you will see what WD added over 1.05.04.

Them, read the WD forums, and you will see what they broke over 1.05.04...

It's up to you do decide what's more important for you.

The biggest thing is 1.06.16 added Hulu Plus. If you need Hulu Plus, then stay with the stock firmware.

The biggest thing is 1.06.16 added Hulu Plus. If you need Hulu Plus, then stay with the stock firmware.

Here is the link to the WDTV Live Plus .pdf that explains what has changed between all WD firmware versions:

WDLXTV version 0.5.1.1 is based off WD's 1.05.04 firmware.
So everything listed there in that .pdf under 1.06.16 should be missing from WDLXTV 0.5.1.1.

And one more thing is WDLXTV 0.5.1.1 did not fully implement "Supports USB hard drives greater than 2TBs." listed under WD's 1.05.04 firmware because from what I understand WD did not release the proper corresponding GPL Code for this feature.

I am very much looking forward to a WDLXTV version that can guarantee 3TB HDD support. For me though, I am holding off on upgrading to a 3TB drive and am using WDLXTV version 1.03.49 based off the WD 0.4.7.3 firmware. It is worth the wait because the other features and customizability offered by WDLXTV makes it vastly superior to what is offered by stock firmware versions.

0.5.1.1 Live should have proper 3TB support. it's the Live Plus that WD failed to supply an updated kernel.

Considering the current pricing on hard disks, it's certainly helping people postpone buying a new 3 TB one
