1) Installing any other ´firmware than original on Hub/Streaming (through the starter firmware) will wipe decryption keys for many online services FOR EVER (no going back possible).

2) If I remember right, WD removed more than some online services from the GPL firmware. I think they also removed most of the commercial 3rd party applications like the paragon NTFS driver, leaving you with ntfs-3g which has a poor performance for example.

WD states this quite clearly on their website:
Warning! This is the GPL source code. This is NOT the firmware for the device. If you use this source code to update the device, it will be treated as a third party user-modified firmware. We recommend using firmware released by Western Digital only. Using third party or user-modified firmware will cause malfunction and will void your product warranty. Once you install third party or user-modified firmware, even if the product is rolled back to the original firmware from WD, access to certain features will be disabled.

I remembered another reason why it wouldn't work/it would be difficult: The hub OSD uses a different remote (with extra buttons). I am sure that you wouldn't be able to use the remote from gen 3 with the OSD from Plus without using EIRI...

_V and _B denotes which device (Live or Live Plus) a firmware is for. Villa and Bungalow were internal names from WD for these two devices.

"Faster" is subjective ;) As many other tasks are running in the background, terminating/disabling those services will positively impact the overall performance of your device - running 10 torrents, hosting 20 websites and harvesting tons of stuff from the internetz however results in decrease of performance.

Performance also depends on the attached media - there are periodic scans of the attached USB drives for new content (see Media Library feature). If you have a lot of content on a USB drive, or if you xmount TB of content, you will have occasional slowdowns. Try disabling Media Library feature to see if you gain speed.

Even by running "default", through the network, your partner/children/neighbours can be accessing your connected USB devices and remotely play movies & mp3's ;) But as stated by mad_ady, it helps to turn off the "default" media libary, but also to let USB disks spin up at least some time before playing a movie, not using moviesheets etc. Rebooting the WD TV every x days is also fun :D

Do you mean the medialibrary in the systemsettings or is this option in the s00custom?
