I have never seen that version, so I'll assume you mean 1.06.18. In that case, it means you have the Latin America version of the WDTV Live Plus. WDLXTV is not supported on this device.

Hello :)

Thanx for the reply KAD and RMerlin. As for the device, I just bought it in Best Buy in Vancouver, Canada.

Cheers!

that's interesting, best buy in canada, I wouldn't think they'd be selling a latin american version, I wonder if WD has done something again, with some sort of hardware change

That is what I thought as well... Some sort of protection...

I'll hit that store again today and check the serial numbers on other WD TV Live devices there... Maybe I was unlucky and just garbed one from the 'wrong' batch :)

Cheers!

that's the WD TV Live Streaming Media Player (which isn't supported).
from wdtv website:
## WD TV Live Streaming Media Player
## • WD TV Live Streaming Media Player GPL Code
## • Current Firmware - 1.05.18 (12/2011) | Release Notes
WDTV-LIVE-PLUS : WDLXTV-PLUS ver 0.5.1.1 (FW Base 1.05.04)
WDTV-LIVE : WDLXTV-LIVE ver 0.5.1.1 (FW Base 1.05.04)
... and also a PBO : MEDE8ER 1026

Yes, that's the one....

So, what's the difference between WD TV Live Streaming Media Player and WD TV Live? Except for the not-supported by WDLXTV part.

Isn't the WD TV Live Streaming Player the new version of WD TV Live? I mean, there is no other WD TV Live to buy at the moment except for the one that I've just bought... Actually, there is WD TV Live Hub but that's a different device.

I'm confused.

Thanx.

The Live Streaming is replacing both the Live and Live Plus models. It's based on newer base code (closer to the Live Hub than to the former two), with a more modern UI, and more online services available. But the downside is WD is encrypting large portions of its firmware, making it nearly impossible for us to put WDLXTV on it. At this point the only advice we can give to WDLXTV supporters is to return the device, and make sure you let WD know the reason of your return (the removal of any homebrew firmware possibility). There's a thread discussing that device here: http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=5991

Let's face it: without WDLXTV, the WDTV line of product would be just "yet another media player device" lost in a seas of competition. It doesn't has any real advantage over the (often cheaper) competition outside of maybe a slightly better image quality. And a bunch of online services, most of which are only available in the US. So if the WD ties want to appease the Hollywood Gods at all cost, then... so be it. The day the dev team spots a competitor's device that is more open to homebrew and b-rad decides to throw his weight behind it, the only losers in the end would be WD themselves.

Yes. It's the new version and the new version is not supported. There is a whole thread here discussing it.

That is such a let down!

I will return the device and make sure that the WD finds out why. Shame on them!
