Simple tool for play and loop videos automatically

PLoop is an app.bin for the WDLXTV homebrew firmware that, once put
into an usb storage connected to the WDTV device, automatically starts
the playback of the first file in the 'video' directory of that
device.

The playback will loop indefinitely for that file and there won't ever
be any graphical interface shown: the device becomes an on/off
solution ideal for exhibition spaces and musea deploying such
technology to show videos.

Usage

As simple as it sounds: copy a video file into the video/ directory of
a usb stick, copy ploop.app.bin in its root, stick it into the WDTV
and switch it on.

The video will start playing and will loop again when its over. Screen
will always be black in the meanwhile.

Loop is not seamless, but close to, with approximately 1 second black
between each play.

This app.bin solves the problem many people had with WDTV, that the
autoplay function doesn't works.

Compatibility

PLoop only works on a specific hardware configuration: WD HD Live
players running B-Rad's WDLXTV firmware, something artists themselves
can afford for approx 100EUR on the consumer market.

i followed your guide but my box doesn't want to play my videofile. the screen stys blue.

hi Tom,

unfortunately I don't have many devices to try and develop, so my possibilities to insure compatibility across different versions and models is limited.

Ploop, as well as other software I'm writing like HDSync, are exclusively tested on WDTV HD Live boxes (NOT PLUS) using stable B-Rad's firmware.

At the moment of writing the firmware tested is the one based on stock WDTV 1.02.21 and versioned as WDLXTV-Live-0.4.7.3 (however, also the Ext flavour should work)

Hello, I'm using the WDLXTV v1.01.77 firmware on my WDTV HD device.
when I use ploop.app.bin on a usb with an mp4 video, it works fine for autoplay
BUT, the loop isn't clean. I'm still seeing annoying information being displayed at the start of every loop.
specifically: "1/1: English AAC"

how can I get rid of that dumb message info?

best way to do this without a creating your own firmware or osd.bin is to
add a start up script to mount -o bind a replacement xml

I have several WD hd mediaplayers,
"WD TV™ HD Media Player"
that I bought at different times mostly second hand from marktplaats. So they come frome different years.
They work fine.

Only to make the player to infenitely loop,
I have to select the vob-file, and than in the options menu select the loop-optionbutton, and than select the specific loopfunction.
This is a lot of hassle, since I project the video-image with a video-projector on dimensional screens, so the projectedthe wd-menu therefore is distorted and not well readable is not

When I copy the ploop.app.bin file and the intended vobfile on an usb stick,
just both in the root, not in a folder
And connect it to the media-player, the media-player just stil works the same. It does not play and loop after PowerOnn

What do I do wrong?
What should I do to make it autoplay&loop?

Welcome to the forum Femke.

Regarding your question : please make sure that you have a WDTV that's suitable for this app.bin.

doesn't tell us much unfortunately.

As you are posting in the "WDLXTV-G2 & WDLXTV-Live/Plus app.bins"section of the forum, I assume one of these, but I am not sure.
Can you please supply serialnumber, so it's 100% clear what you have of the version number of the firmware on the box ?

And..... you have it flashed with WDLXTV I may hope ? With standard WD firmware, it will never work...
