0.5.8.1 FW Not Reading/Loading Startup Files in root

Hi,

I am new to these forums and WDLXTV so please bare with me. I have successfully updated my Gen 1 to 0.5.8.1. The files used when booting from the attached drive (the background jpg, log-saver.app.bin) are loading and running when I have them in the root of my FAT32 4GB usb stick. But when I put them on the root of my Western Digital 1 TB USB HDD (which is where all the media I want to play and share over my network), the background jpg does not load (and the background is a distorted image as a result) and the logger does not write any logs to the root of my drive. The background jpg is loaded and logs are written when I boot from the USB stick.

Can anyone shed some light on what I may be doing wrong so that the startup files are loaded from the 1TB HDD?

Also, not sure if this is matters, but another difference between the USB stick and the HDD is that the HDD has a virtual cdrom partition which the WDLXTV recognizes as a folder called "cdrom".

The virtual partition might be the reason, but the first thing I would check is the HDD partition name where you placed your app.bins.
If the name contains one or more spaces, remove them.

I removed the space from my drive name (went from "My Book" to "MyBook") and everything worked great. Thanks Alicia!

Ok, now on to the next problem!

My Wireless USB dongle is not being recognized. I am not seeing the activity light on the device and most of the time will hang on the welcome screen, or not even get there at all. I have a belkin F5D9050 which uses the rt73.ko driver. Following are my net.config and RT73STA.dat:

Thanks recliq for making my question easier to read I've noted for future post.

Some more info in regards to the problem:
-I have encryption for wireless on my router set to "WPA Personal" with "AES" encryption

Anyone? I can't imagine I'm the only one who has this problem with the gen1 and rt73.ko driver. I am pretty sure my config files are ok (but please verify!) Is the driver bad? Is there a known bug in the WDLXTV firmware when it loads rt73? Any thoughts? Any ways to fix?

I am not using any wireless drivers on my Gen1 so cannot be of any big help.

However, what I would do if I was you, is remove the wireless encryption as long as you are trying to get things working. Just to excluded that from being a reason why it's not working.

Something else, I noted you got your wireless-mod-rt.app.bin from this post. If you scroll down in that post, you'll see a rt73sta.dat
Compare the first uncommented line in your rt73sta.dat with the 1st line in the file from the link; I see you don't have the brackets [ ].
Don't know if it make any difference, but I would give it a try and add them.

I'll go ahead and give your two suggestions a try.


In regards to the driver though, I believe the driver is embedded in the binary "wireless-mod-rt.app.bin", which goes along with the log saying it is loading. Your log would show your various drivers loading as well (including your wireless). What I am concerned about is that a bug was introduced post 0.5.3.2 that messes with the loading of the rt73.ko driver from "wireless-mod-rt.app.bin" (see http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=5111.0). I checked the source for the rt73.ko driver at the forum you and I referenced (http://wdtvforum.com/main/index.php?topic=1029.0) and I can see that my dongle's driver should have been referenced in the compilation of the binary "wireless-mod-rt.app.bin" (line 827 at http://rt2400.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/rt2400/source/rt73/Module/rtmp_def.h?hideattic=0&view=markup#l_812). Do you have any insight into this? Is there a known bug with 0.5.8.1 when using rt73.ko? If so is there a fix?

Also, if any of my assumptions are mistaken, please correct.
