The screensaver comes on after a few minutes while a slideshow is active.

I've heard of the screensaver kicking in while playing a video sometimes...
In fact there is not much we can do about this, since this is handled by DMAOSD (which we can't change).
If this is happening all the time for you the only workaround I see is to disable screensaver in Settings.

It happens every time (4 out of 4) when watching a slideshow, but never watching a movie.
