There were changes in 0.4.7.3 on how the moviesheet plugin was loaded. To start fresh with the moviesheet configuration (it will be reactivated on reboot), delete the file /conf/wdtvext-plugins and reboot.

i don't be able to download this firmware . where i can find it.

the two links in the download section are not functionally.
the one that i are capable to download is the boot version (1.01.77_WDLXTV.COM_EXT3-BOOT_G2-0.4.7.3 )

i try now the boot version but if this is good for me i want to try the flash version.

WDLXTV-G2-0.4.7.3 Firmware Upgrade Fail :(

Postby dbizzzz » Wed Jun 22, 2011 11:00 am

Hi,
I too updated to 1.01.77-WDLXTV-G2-0.4.7.3 [flash] on my GEN2 device - it went v smoothly, right up to 100% no errors, but alas now my WDTV doesn't boot into the menu at all. I was previously using 1.01.77-WDLXTV-G2-0.4.5.3 quite happily with moviesheets & everything working fine (oh why did I upgrade ...if it ain't broke ..)

All I get now is the WDTV logo for a few seconds then blank, I can see that my USB stick get's read for a few seconds during the WDTV logo appears, then after about 5 seconds pause it get's read again. The WDTV icon output is both coming thru composite and HDMI. But once the logo dissappears the output signal is gone, it doesn't even output a blank screen, it doesn't output anything, the TV reports NO SIGNAL.

I've read thru the fixes, tried to flash with original firmware, held the reset button in from boot and after boot for 10, 20 ,, even 60 seconds ,,, nothing, no recovery menu or option that people are speaking of.

I haven't got a clue how to do any of the serial cable connection stuff with putty (I don't even know where the cable plugs into the box)

Please can someone explain in noob basic but also specific detail how they got theirs fixed.
Some say they put the files on a USB and booted and it worked, or pressed the reset and it worked, but could you please detail .. what file format/sector size did you set the USB stick, is there a prefered size (I use a 4GB .. is that too big ?!), exactly what files, what are they named ... also when holding the reset button, is this held in before powering on, after, during the WDTV icon ....

... help pls :?

use fat32, 4GB size is fine, make sure there are no hidden partitions or such, if in questions about formatting, use the stardard windows format tool, and select Fat32

files to include on thumb .ver & .bin , since it sounds like flash was completed, you'll probably want to edit the .ver file to something larger than what you previously installed (just in case)

then plug the power cord in and see what happens, after boot or once it's stuck, hold down the reset button for a few seconds, while holding this down, pull the power cord
then plug it in and see what you get

Thanks for the quick reply KAD,

I attempted your suggestion, bust still no luck.

Formatted the USB to FAT32, copied across the 2 files "wdtvhd.ver" and "wdtvhd.bin" from the "1.01.77_WDLXTV.COM_WDLXTV_G2-0.4.5.3" B-RAD's firmware, opened the wdtvhd.ver within notepad and changed the string from:
VERSION='1.01.77.WDLXTV_G2-0.4.5.3' LOCATION='wdtvhd.bin' ... to:
VERSION='1.01.77.WDLXTV_G2-0.4.8.3' LOCATION='wdtvhd.bin'

Powered the WDTV on without any USB plugged in, waited for the WDTV logo to appear and held in the reset button for about 5 to 10 seconds, powered off, input the USB in, and then powered up, waited about 5 mins, it just stayed blank, the USB stick wasn't being read after the logo dissappeared.

Gave up, powered off ...
Have tried same method again with the official 1.01.77 firmware from official WDTV, same results, doesn't look like the WDTV even acknowledges there are firmware files on the USB, yet it does appear to read the USB for a few seconds once the WDTV logo appears, so it must be checking for something.

I also followed the same procedure holding the reset button in throughout plugging in and out the power and usb sticks, v tricky I might add ... still nothing.

:( Have I got a totally bricked WDTV ???

I'm not sure you changed the version string correctly. As far as I know the upgrade process only checks the first digits of the version string (e.g. 1.01.77) and disregards the rest. Try changing your version string to "1.20.77.WDLXTV_G2-0.4.5.3" and try again.

Tried changing the .ver string to read 1.20.77.WDLXTV_G2-0.4.5.3

Still no luck :(

Any other tricks I can do with a USB, or do I have to quick learn how to serial/putty recover my WDTV ?

By the way the reset button pressing doesn't seem to make any difference ...
am I supposed to see another menu come up, or a change in the logo ??
no matter what combination of presses & power up's I do it is still the same, logo then blank

usually after a failed update, holding the reset, and pull plug, when trying to boot again, I get a firmware flash recovery screen, but that's on the live, the G2 could be a little different, but you'd think they'd include something like the recovery screen

only last thing I can think of, and it's a long shot, put an ext3 version of the firmware on the thumbdrive, and if you're lucky it will boot off the thumbdrive
