PPTP VPN client

Postby b-rad.cc » Wed Oct 13, 2010 9:04 pm

Here's a preliminary version of a PPTP VPN client app.bin

It comes with a single profile at the moment, for strongVPN. I've been a strongVPN user for a long time, I recommend them if you're looking for someone fast & reliable. They work very well when you want to 'pretend' you're somewhere else  8-)

pptp.app.bin

Features:
- Local network xmounts still work
- Webend daemon status button to turn on/off & enable/disable PPTP VPN
- WEC Plugin for all PPTP settings, visible under APPS -> PPTP VPN

Bugs:
- Apache is a bit sluggish to access when VPN is on
- Webend 'start' link doesn't work

If you come up with any more profiles be sure to past them and I'll include them in the app.bin. :geek:

requires wdlxtv-0.4.3.2+
any previous version of ext3-boot will work

Awesome! I had OpenVPN in my list of things to port, but now I can cross that off the list.

Thanks for putting this together, b-rad.

Newest version seems to be 0.4.3.1...so won't work till the next version of firmware?

The Plus is at 0.4.3.2 after you flash 0.4.3.1 it will prompt to update via network. Cannot confirm any newer versions for other boxes as I do not own them.

There is no official release newer than 0.4.3.1 for the Live. You have to go SVN, use the unofficial version PsychoTHC did with his OSD integrated, or wait for the next release.

Hi!
Since there is an Option to enter the VPN Server, Username and PW, I wonder which settings in the profile a strongvpn specific?
I would like to use hidemyip.com but sadly it does not work :(

I also noticed that the pptp Button never turns green - it seems that it does not start from webend?
If I select "start on next boot" pandora still does not work + i can not access the webend anymore until I do the
config_tool -c APACHE='ON'
config_tool -s

commands

any help appreciated :)

Thank you!

I've got the .4.3.3 Psycho firmware on the Live and the PPTP App is installed and shows up in Webend.

I have a StrongVPN account and have setup the info in Webend.

I want to use PPTP so I can access Pandora.

My problem is that Pandora is still saying I am outside US.

How can I confirm that the PPTP app is working?

It is enabled but after a reboot, the PPTP icon in webend indicates that it is not started. Yet the bug report shows:

Code: Select all
...
Dec 31 18:00:25 WDTVLIVE user.notice mount.watch: starting
Dec 31 18:00:26 WDTVLIVE user.notice /tmp/init.d/S10pptp: starting pptp client
Dec 31 18:00:27 WDTVLIVE user.notice /tmp/init.d/S10pptp: strong-vpn pptp profile selected
Dec 31 18:00:27 WDTVLIVE user.notice /tmp/init.d/S10pptp: logging into vpn-in21.reliablehosting.com as xxxxxx
Dec 31 18:00:27 WDTVLIVE user.notice /tmp/init.d/S64umsp: starting UMSP
Dec 31 18:00:28 WDTVLIVE user.notice /tmp/init.d/S64umsp: Obtaining svn UMSP plugins...

If I select "start PPTP", It adds more entries to bug report:

Code: Select all
Dec 31 18:01:12 WDTVLIVE user.notice mount.watch: Create "/tmp/media/usb/USB2/Basement Server"
Dec 31 18:11:30 WDTVLIVE authpriv.notice sudo: www-data : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/tmp/www-tmp ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/tmp/init.d/S10pptp forcestart
Dec 31 18:11:30 WDTVLIVE user.notice /tmp/init.d/S10pptp: starting pptp client
Dec 31 18:11:31 WDTVLIVE user.notice /tmp/init.d/S10pptp: strong-vpn pptp profile selected
Dec 31 18:11:31 WDTVLIVE user.notice /tmp/init.d/S10pptp: logging into vpn-in21.reliablehosting.com as xxxxxx

Does this look like it should be working? Pandora still says I'm not in US

Nevermind, I figured out I had to remove the old files from Bagira's web proxy solution that I was using to get Pandora previously...Works now!!
