Well,

you stating
I don't know where to start sorry I am a noob.

and writing in this section stating in the description
This is the place for anything so technical that it would cause a n00b's head to 'splode. If you aren't comfortable with Linux, willing to get your hands wet, and able to hold your own, then you should only be observing. n00bish behaviour will be not be tolerated in this area and your privileges to view/post here will be taken away because of it.

doesn't go together, does it?

You should start with getting familiar with linux before trying things like this! 8-)

Thank you very much for this productive information.

I can confirm this method of unpacking and re-packing on the firmware-file mini_hd.bin for the LaCinema Mini HD (Connect) - http://www.iboum.com/pr/laminihd.php

I tried Version 2.02

http://www.lacie.com/download/drivers/LaCinema%20mini%20HD_mini%20Connect%20Update%202.02.zip

and Version 2.04

http://www.lacie.com/download/drivers/LaCinema%20mini%20HD%20&%20mini%20Connect%20Update%202.04.zip

Both got successful unpacked and re-packed. The linux command cmp didn't show different bytes - in the mini_hd.bin-file. That's good enough for me.

Do all files of the package have do be md5summed in /md5sum.txt?

you should read more carefully, especially in this section!

if you altered a file listed in /md5sums.txt then you have to either update it's new md5sum in that file OR delete the files from the list (not advised).
if the system encounters a file listed in /md5sums.txt not matching the md5 there it won't boot.

Hi
i am new to this. At the moment I am running fw from USB downloaded from svn with customizations I like(OSD, plugins).
Question is can I pack this to make it flashable?? I did unpack pack test with flash firmwares but I like to have latest rev.

So
nobody answered crossed my fingers and:
on vmware ubuntu downloaded latest revisons of wdlxtv live (svn export)
PsycoTHC osd
and plugins I wanted flashed
merged things I wanted
packed the firmware and flashed!!
Now I have B-rad rev 290 with PsychoTHC rev14 and plugins already in flash no need to download.
Big thanks to everybody that made this posiblle!!!
If anybody interested could post detailed tutorial on this if it is OK with B-Rad and other that created this
wonderfull firmware.

when repacking modded firmware take care of /md5sum.txt.
If a file listed in there fails md5 check the wd will not boot.
So if you altered a listed file you have to either update the list (recommended) or delete the file from the list in /md5sum.txt.
