Attention Themers Hub/SMP Info

Postby KAD » Mon Dec 17, 2012 10:48 pm

Here's some info to help themer's get started with these devices

1. There's a lot of theme's already available, which can be found in these 2 forums
http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Hub-Themes/bd-p/hub_themes
http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Discussions/bd-p/streaming_discussions

2. Currently there's 3 basic theme types
a. non-moviesheet themes
b. moviesheet themes (using internal scraper or thumbgen xml files)
c. linksheets compatible themes (note: currently linksheets scripts are not working on wdlxtv initial beta release for these devices)

3. to be linksheets compatible themes must make a few xml edits, add the following line
rv_gallery_browse_page.xml
Code: Select all
<image image="@@browse_text" x="0" y="0" w="1280" h="720" bg="1"/>

all other views
Code: Select all
<image image="@@focused_title" x="0" y="0" w="1280" h="720" bg="1"/>

I recommend including these lines in your theme's for future compatibility
currently these are the only 3 linksheets compatible themes,
Coco Linksheets version
Goodbye Black Mamba
JSA720

4. There are also several theme's available for download directly from WD servers, to help you get started, here they are all zipped up for you
Mochi
Winter Mochi
Winter
Legacy
Anodized by PsychoTHC
Anodized 3.24.05 XL by PsychoTHC
OsdModHub 1.0 by Juliojs

5. Only provide XML's / Images in your theme that you want changed
anything missing, it will use the XML or image from Mochi found in the firmware

6. uploading themes to the SMP
a. limited to 30MB Max
b. must be a zip file - compression type must be "store" i.e no compression
any other compression type will fail to upload
c. must have a valid meta.xml file
d. to remove above limitations you can run a theme off a thumbdrive, see #7

7. I'm currently unable to upload any theme via the webend or curl while running wdlxtv
your current choices are
a. upload theme to device before booting into wdlxtv
b.run any theme from a usb drive by setting this value
Code: Select all
config_tool -c THEME_PATH=/path/to/root/of/theme

8. Moving from moviesheets theme (xml based) to linksheets (also Using Media Library with Linksheets)
a. you must recursively delete/rename the tag <title> to something else or delete all your xmls
-- you will also be required to delete/clean the media library, I recommend to delete all ".wd_tv" folders found on all your drives
b. WD's moviesheet process will still be running in the background
this can slow down browsing on the device
this is due to multiple processes going on at once
this can be solved by recursively rename/delete the tag <background> to something else
c. it is not required to make any special theme xml edits for this to work
however there are quite a few items that can slow down browsing
you may want to remove items such as
Code: Select all
<image image="@@poster_bg" x="57" y="172" w="176" h="261" align="hcenter" />
<image image="@@poster" x="57" y="172" w="176" h="261" align="hcenter" />

I know, I'm forgetting something will update, if I think of it
enjoy

Well, it's not quite beta yet - it's more like alpha. Lots of things still don't work (like UMSP). It's a work in progress...

Hi this is very exciting thanks for posting, have been following this forum and the SMP progress hoping for a "fix" to the 30mb limit on the SMP.

Just one question if I may do I set this in the theme itself ie template.xml or in the SMP itself?

Step 7
b.run any theme from a usb drive by setting this value
CODE
Code: Select all
config_tool -c THEME_PATH="/path/to/root/of/theme

?

thanks in advance

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

@gustos,

1. install wdlxtv
2. use telnet/ssh to set the path, in the same way variables like this were set on previous firmwares

Has the WDLXTV firmware for SMP been released yet? I can't find anything on it.

Thanks!

Thanks KAD!

Still no WiFi support though, from what I see. Am I correct?

Hi,

Purchased the WDTV Live SMP this month and have literally spent every free minute of the last week tinkering with moviesheets. Got them the way I liked but wanted no loading times and instant displays, so read up on the above method. Excellent work and kudos to everyone involved in getting this linksheet type method working on the SMP

I've got my SMP running b-rads custom firmware and have added some test moviesheets (renamed to be exact name as movie filename) to Black Mambas theme and put them onto a USB stick. (followed instructions as per http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Hub-Themes/Theme-GoodBye-Black-Mamba-LinkSheet-Updated-Dec-14th/td-p/510386)

But for the step:

b.run any theme from a usb drive by setting this value
CODE: SELECT ALL
config_tool -c THEME_PATH=/path/to/root/of/theme

- I'm not sure what the path is of my USB stick is? Is it just '/usb/'? (i.e. 'THEME_PATH=/usb/') [completely guessing here - I assume there's a different path for the front USB port and the rear USB port on the SMP?]

Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, been googling and searching this forum for the past couple of hours on this (almost last) step. Appreciate any help!
