1.05.04_B_0.5.1.1

Postby happyslamdance » Sun Dec 11, 2011 2:36 pm

For some reason now my WDTV will not respond if it has been turned off for several hours, I have to unplug the power source to get it to boot. Is there any fix for this, I never had this problem on the latest original firmware and don't remember having it on 1.03.49_PLUS_0.4.7.3.

I have the same behavior with my live and my plus.
But since we get the same behavior on the original firmware, it excludes wdlxtv...
It would be nice however if we could find the cause of this, because I find the workaround (unplug/plug) a bit anoying.
I'm about to plus my wdtv on a powerbar just to be able to do that reset easilly
WDTV-LIVE-PLUS : WDLXTV-PLUS ver 0.5.1.1 (FW Base 1.05.04)
WDTV-LIVE : WDLXTV-LIVE ver 0.5.1.1 (FW Base 1.05.04)
... and also a PBO : MEDE8ER 1026

I have a plus with the same firmware and I don't have this problem because I unplug the device from power when not being used.

are you using regular standby or enhanced standby?

if you are using enhanced standby you will have to press power twice. first press should bring it into regular standby and second press should bring the osd back.

if that does not work you might have to add a reboot command to the power up event.

you can read more about the different standby's and get instructions to set up the power up reboot event here http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Power_settings/Standby

I assume I am on default standby, I haven't made any changes to that. I have only done the basic setup to stream from my server.

Regular standby. And regardless of how many times I press power, no sign of life ... until unplug/plug.

I haven't found a way to trigger this problem (which is from the original firmware) on purpose.
It only happens from time to time (about 2 times per month in my case). So it's hard to find a pattern to this...
When it happens, I can't login to the WEC nor login via telnet to the device. I haven't try to ping it.

At first, I tought it could be a race condition in the wdtv design caused by the heat, but one of my device is in a cabinet and the other is on a shelf, so it shouldn't get too hot.

Also, if I remember correctly, I saw that hang while the device was playing a video in loop, and also when playing nothing at all.
So as you see, the troubleshooting on my side is ... in its early stage.

If I find something, I'll post results here, even if it isn't related to the wdtlxtv firmware...

I have similar problem. After wake up, the UI works file but it wouldn't play any movies, music and stucks at the loading status with the circling wheel forever (normally only takes a few seconds to load a movie). Have to unplug or reboot it from the web frontend.
