1.03.49_B - 0.4.7.3 Stops responding after left on all night

Postby jpro1001 » Mon May 23, 2011 1:58 pm

Any know why my device stops responding after I leave it on all night? The front light stays on. I leave it navigated in a smb shared folder after a video stops playing (when I fall asleep). Version: 1.03.49_B-WDLXTV-Plus-0.4.7.3 [flash]. The only thing I did to this was load the custom firmware and have it auto-mount an NFS share mapped to an smb share. However, this NFS share is not the one I left open. I have tried this for three nights in a row with the same results. I am forced to power cycle it. Other than that it works great!

I've heard this before,
not much of a solution that I know of

on the live there was a plugin sleep timer, that would execute cmds after a set time of inactivity, sounds like it would solve your issue
but plugins don't run on the plus, and I don't know of anything similar for the plus

Is it going into standby and freezing or something? I'm not sure how standby works with this device. Maybe I can try turning off the standby feature somehow? Maybe I can write some kind of command to fire a keep-a-live timer or something...

if I remember right, it was a problem of going to sleep while still inside the network shares browser
I think it occurs when the shares are no longer available, but I'm trying to remember way back

Any ideas how to prevent it from sleeping?

I have the same problem. After a couple days the box just stalls and is no longer pingable.

I disabled most daemons in my config but I do however have an xmount with SMB and I leave a USB stick in the USB port, I'm not sure if this could have an impact.

I believe it is heat related. My unit is in a cabinet. The heat builds up and causes a freeze until reboot. Sometimes if we watch 3 movies in a row it will freeze. Opening the cabinet (I'm thinking of adding a fan that might help) and letting it cool-down for 10 minutes with power off helps and resets the unit. Also elevating it by laying horizontally mount with one side elevated on top of other cables helps too (extends playing time).
