1.03.49_B WDLXTV___-0.4.5.3 - Stutters with no sound on MKV

Postby rlee8394 » Sun Feb 20, 2011 8:36 pm

Not sure if this is a bug on WDLXTV's part since same issue occurs on OEM F/W. When playing back a MKV video, video begins to stutter after about ten seconds. No audio at all. Western Digital's "solution" is to play the file from a USB attached drive. That does work flawlessly as does on a WDLX'd unit. Of course I don't consider this a solution as much as a work-around. Has anyone here experienced this phenomenon, and is there a fix coming soon?

I am connecting to Vortexbox 1.8. Have yet to find a device that will properly play video directly from a DLNA server.

Thanks,
Ron

MKV is only a container - it doesn't say anything about the codecs used by your file, or its bitrate.

Post the result from Mediainfo (http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download/Windows). Also specify what type of network connection you are using - for instance, you will never be able to play a 20 Mbits stream over a Wifi connection...

I experience the same thing sometimes with 720p mkv files, but for periods during playback. The video will start going jerky, almost like it looks if you're 2x FF but moving at 1X speed so it jumps from frame to frame and the audio will mute. For me, this happens even when playing back from USB.

Here's an example vid that it happened on. It played mostly ok, but for maybe 2 mins somewhere in the middle it did this.

Folks,

My Bad!! I had the WDTV Live and the Vortexbox wired to an 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet hub, yuk!!! No wonder playback sucked. Anyway, I picked up a 5-port Gigabit D-Link switch, and now all is well.

Thanks,
Ron
