Can't Transfer Large Files over Mapped Network Drive!

Postby Zenophobe » Mon Dec 20, 2010 6:46 pm

I have a formated 250GB drive connected to the rear USB port on my WDTV Live + with 1.03.39_B - 0.4.3.2.

I can transfer an 710MB video file to the drive no problem but when i try and transfer a 6.49GB MKV file it says:

It would be a lot faster if you just walked the hard drive to the computer. But if you're lazy (like me), and are annoyed with the windows Network Unavailable messages when copying via Explorer, I found that Rich Copy works best. It has a lot of error handling options and resume from error options... Pretty much XCopy, with a GUI.

I've had the same issues from WinXP. I switched to WinSCP for copying. At first I did not have my UN & PW saved in WinSCP, and I would periodically be prompted to re-enter credentials (I took it to mean the connection had dropped). Since having WinSCP store my credentials, no prompting any more, but the copy does seem to take a very long time - much longer than a Teracopy copy used to take when I was on the stock firmware (based on my recollection anyway).

Just a simple comment: WinSCP usually transfers files encrypted.

Try FileZilla, it's high speed and could transfer large files through FTP.
I wish we could share with this kind of speed without NFS, because my
harddrives are formatted with NTFS.

How did you format the disk? Make sure it's not Fat or fat32 they can't handle files that large.

If your network is wired, try re-crimping the cable ends ( between your computer and WD ). Had a similar issue a while back and this did the trick for me.

Try putting the WDTV IP and Network NAME in the HOSTS file: e.g.

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx WDLXTV # xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = numbers of your box IP

This worked for me. Stable and no disconnects copying huge files from windows explorer / Network Neighbourhood.
I could not transfer very reliably and certainly not big files at all before I did this.
