First off thanks for the quick reply. I have been using the stock firmware 1.05.04_V with a 3TB hard drive for awhile and have had no problems and I upgraded to 1.06.15_V and had no problems with the 3TB drive but I found it had more bugs then before so I switched back to 1.05.04_V. I use to use the 1.03.49_V-WDLXTV-Live-0.4.7.3 firmware and I really liked it but when I got my 3TB hard drive I used it with that firmware and had the whole partitioning and losing data thing which I don't wanna do again. So from my understanding since I had no trouble with the stock 1.05.04_V and 1.06.15_V firmware I should be fine with the 1.05.04_V_WDLXTV.COM_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.5.1.1 firmware? I don't really wanna backup the whole drive, if I lost the data it wouldn't be the end of the world but I wanna make sure the 1.05.04_V_WDLXTV.COM_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.5.1.1 firmware doesn't have the same problems as 1.03.49_V-WDLXTV-Live-0.4.7.3, because I know for sure that I would mess up the drive with the 1.03.49_V-WDLXTV-Live-0.4.7.3 firmware.

The two firmwares use different kernels (fff files), so you *shouldn't* be in the same situation. However, the kernel that comes with the stock 1.05 firmware is not exactly the same as the one that comes with wdlxtv's 1.05 firmware. This is because the stock kernel can only boot a signed firmware (by WD) and the other kernel can boot any custom firmware (has this signature check disabled).

The problem is the community did not compile the kernel for 1.05 wdlxtv, instead it comes from WD, inside their GPL archive. So they've built a kernel without that check. It should be otherwise identical to the original kernel, but sadly, only they can know this for a fact.

I would say there are over 90% chances large drives will work with the live with this kernel, but again I haven't tested it personally and I can't say for a fact that it does. You will have to take the plunge and let us know :)

Thanks again for the replies. I think I'm gonna hold off on using the firmware until someone on here has reported success with 3TB drives and wdlxtv live, I don't have my data backed up or have another 3TB drive to back it up with. Seeing how WD didn't release the new kernel of the live plus, who knows what they did with this one. If anyone has a blank 3TB hard drive test it out with I would greatly appreciate to know how it works. I might just end buying another drive to test it out and back up my stuff, if I do I will report how it goes.

I've heard that some people have had their drives working ok until the try to access data on a certain area of the disk. Are you still running without any problems? I ask because I'm considering picking up a 3tb drive.

my understanding is that the issue was with the live plus and not the original live, if that's true then foruman's results are a moot point are they not?
we should expect the 3TB to work fine with the live, just maybe not so well with the live plus.

please correct me if I read all the info wrong.

I'm not sure if its even useful information; but the Latin American PLUS GPL zip on WD's site contain's an updated kernel. While I'm sure this maybe useless and it indicates different part numbers.
