Plugin: CDManager [Moved to WDTVExt plugins]

Postby arifg » Sun Aug 15, 2010 8:36 pm

Once UMSP's Optical Drive manager works unreliable to me I've wrote my own plugin for WDTVExt allowing to control an Optical Drive. It works fine with my USB Toshiba Portable SuperMultidrive, hope you'll have the same (I mean a luck not a drive! :))). It automatically mounts optical disk being inserted into a drive and adds sub menu item "Eject Optical drive" under "Video/Local Drives", "Photo/Local Drives" and "Music/Local Drives" menus. After inserting of optical disk it will be automatically mounted and it's contents could be accessed from "Local Drives/Folders" sub menu under "Video", "Music" or "Photo" respecively. Eject disk using "Eject Optical Drive" sub menu item. Install the stuff as usual: unpack archive into WDTVLive's drive .wdtvext/CDManager directory and register it through WDTVExt control panel. Any suggestions and bug reports appreciated.

Enjoy :)

UPD1:
Ver. 0.1.2
Fixed some issues, added "Loading Optical Disk..." message at time of mounting, script 'mount.cd' replaced with 'check.disk.stats'
Delete old files from plugin folder before installing this update.

UPD2:
Ver. 0.1.3
Automatic tray closing after eject fixed

UPD3:
Ver. 0.1.4
- Fixed bug when plugin is unable to mount some drives connected to USB Hub
- Fixed bug when plugin is unable to mount some type of DVD, AVCHD, .mkv etc.

Nobody has interested? Hmm... Seems like I'm the only one who uses an optical drive with WDLXTV...

sadly no responses doesn't mean your plugin is not beeing used by a couple of ppl.. (see my comments in truecrypt app topic)
Seems most ppl are very fast and wordy if it comes to criticism but not on the opposite.

I don't have (and hence don't use) a cdrom on my wdtv otherwise i would have tested your plugin.

I think it's a great plugin, but I don't have an optical drive laying around to use

if i had an optical drive this would have been implemented and optical drive support would be top notch...but now three different people who have promised to mail me one have disappeared, never to be heard from again

and yes, don't take lack of positive feedback as a detriment. People are very quick to fly off the handle and be an @ss, but apprehensive about thanking those for their hard work because they think the devs 'just know already' or something apathetic ;)

Very useful plugin! Thank you!
However I don't like very much the way it periodically checks the optical drive... When you execute the command "blkid" my CD/DVD drive closes itself automatically, so I have very few seconds to insert the disc... I know I can increase this time but I prefer a script that checks the drive state only when I want, for example when I press a button.
What about a plugin that checks the drive state (and ejects it if there's no disc inside) only when I press, for instance, the SEARCH button?
I'll try to do it by myself, I think it's a good chance to learn... :D

Nice work though! ;)

Thats interesting: my drive does not close on blkid calls. I will investigate that, thank you. Use a 'search' button is a good idea, will think about tht.

Awesome plugin! I just recently ordered a WD TV Live and an external DVD drive. I don't have enough inputs on my receiver to support both this and my dvd player, so I'll definitely be checking out your plugin and giving you feedback (because I have to!)

Wow,
just installed, really nice but I have a problem:
with my external samsung dvd drive when I click on the eject button it ejects but does not stay open.
It stays open only after 2/3 attempts.

Any ideas?
