I took a look at the eminent UMSP plugins and the version of the ZDF plugin mentioned ^^ is already in the WD SVN repository

Its the news-zdf.php file

If you look at the code you'll see its nothing but a podcast so you should be able to add that pretty easily to daily-podcasts

here is the podcast URI if you want to go the daily-podcasts route
Code: Select all

Alternatively if you'd like to use the code as is, note that it may or may not be 100% functional, then add the following to your /conf/umsp.php to have it show up in the UMSP menu
Code: Select all
   # --Z-D-F---M-e-d-i-a-t-h-e-k---->
   $myMediaItems[] = array (
      'id'      => 'umsp://plugins/news-zdf',
      'parentID'   => '0',
      'dc:title'   => 'ZDF Mediathek',
      'upnp:class'   => 'object.container',
      'upnp:album_art'=> '',

the above ^^ is specific to the ZDF plug-in

if you specify the upnp:album_art attribute for any UMSP item it'll display as a thumbnail, just provide the location of the image you wish to display. The image can exist locally, on your network or the Internet.

If the image is local or on your network then it must be "visible" within the domain of the WD's built in webserver

There are numerous examples posted throughout the UMSP forums or if you want to poke around the current plug-ins on your system for ideas try the following :
Code: Select all
find /tmp/umsp-plugins -name "*.php" -exec grep "umsp:album_art" '{}' \; -print
check out the Wiki too
Hope that helps

Does this only work if you are booting from ext rather than from firmware?

I am trying to add some live streaming contents by adding url to /config/umsp.php file. I am trying to create/edit that file from a telnet session (from the wd dashboard screen) and then opening the file using vi editor.

I have two questions (I am new to Linux)
Is there a way to copy code from clipboard to VI editor so that I don't have to retype if I just want to cut and paste from windows to the editor. I tried +p but get messge like Regeister D is empty.
2) When I manually entered some code in \config\umsp.php file all pugins from the Umsp menu disappeard. Can this be the result of some syntax error in the code? if yes, should't I just get some error message when I try to run that particular code instead disapperance of all plugins from the menu (when I deleted /config/umsp.php file all plugins appeared in the umsp menu.

I am just trying to understad what I may be doing wrong and how to add a code to stream live tv channels.

Also if someone could add something like that will be great. This site allows to add any live stream url and allow to play on vunow media player device.

an easier way to edit these files,
FTP client
copy to windows desktop
use a proper text editor like notepad++ or other that undestands php
copy your edited version back to WD

also if you insist on editing from shell nano is much friendlier than vi
