external proxy help

Postby KAD » Wed Dec 14, 2011 9:37 pm

hey guys need a little help

like usual, I'm learning a lot, but stuck

I've put the viacom plugin and pbs plugin on my WD
install on WD I think is fine, I think the problem is my webserver for the external proxy

I recently decided to build an Ubuntu Server from spare parts I had laying around, and for the most part it's actually working really great,
soooo much better than my prior set up, I wish I'd done this long ago

so I followed the wiki on how to install and compile the needed packages
which actually seems to have gone fine

where I think my problem is I've got no clue how to set up apache to make the proxy available

I've googled apache for idiots and read a ton of stuff but sort of lost
apache is located at /etc/apache2/... with all of it's needed contents

I put the proxy in /var/www/proxy.php (which as I understand is a default directory for apache)

here's what I get if I restart apache
Code: Select all
kad@DYGERTSERVER:~$ sudo service apache2 restart
[sudo] password for kad:
* Restarting web server apache2                                                apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.1.1 for ServerName
[Wed Dec 14 21:22:34 2011] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts
... waiting apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.1.1 for ServerName
[Wed Dec 14 21:22:35 2011] [warn] NameVirtualHost *:80 has no VirtualHosts
                                                                         [ OK ]

I then configured the plugins to use
Code: Select all
http://127.0.1.1/var/www/proxy.php
which resulted in error message on screen about unsupported format
isn't 127.0.1.1 a loopback device :? meaning only available to localhost
so then I tried
Code: Select all
http://192.168.1.123/var/www/proxy.php
and get the same error message

I'm sure this is probably something easy

anyways, I'm sure you'll all sort me soon enough

You dropped too much. http://192.168.1.123/proxy.php

I had trouble replying with a quote because this board dropped part of the url for me too.

...And the explanation is /var/www is configured as DocumentRoot in your Apache config. Meaning the web "path" root folder is /var/www and it gets added automatically when you make a query.

now that you all point that out, it does make sense

although still getting same error messages with http://192.168.1.123/proxy.php

here's a small chunk of dmaosd.log, I don't see anything that helps, maybe somebody here sees something

I also did not see anything useful in messages.txt

is there any umsp specific log, I looked at umsp-tmpvars and umsp-plugin-status, both of which don't really provide any meaningful info

ideas??

If you want your server to execute the script, you might have to configure CGI, the mechanism for executing scripts like PHP and perl etc.

@PaulF , thanks that seems to be it

I get video in viacom plugin, audio tho is more of a loud unbearable hissing, lol

pbs still not working, although I pulled the proxy from the viacom plugin, so I'm guessing there's something different in that proxy version

anybody know which plugin has the most current version of the proxy, or I can just dump different proxies in the directory for each plugin

I gave you the link for an older Apache by mistake. This one is better: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/howto/cgi.html

Hi KAD, PBS plug-in looks to be toast so I'll take a look at whats going on - proxy scripts are backwards compatible so your good on that front
I'll post info and updates on the originating thread

good to know that I'm up to date, also if you don't mind, I'll make a few edits to the wiki page, based on my experience, maybe it will help other noobs like me

at least I'm up and running, so over the next couple of weeks, I'll try out as many of these external proxy required plugins as I can and of coarse provide feedback
