Local Streaming

Postby m2r » Wed Nov 30, 2011 4:06 pm

Having a hard time with local streaming ... VLC via UDP to WDLXTV @ 192.168.1.xxx:1234
I have attempted to install and modify several Plugins ... IPTV, http-stream, Freeview, and a few others
It seems simple enough, just not finding a solution.
Thanks for any help / info!

You need an udp proxy on the WDTV if you want to use UDP streaming. Search for udpxy.

If you stream from VLC use HTTP streaming rather than UDP streaming.

Finally got some results....
Was able to Stream from PC to WDLXTV using VLC via UDP with Multicast IP
WDLXTV Live with Firms....
1.02.21-WDLXTV-Live-0.4.7.3 [flash]
1.02.21_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.5.1 [flash]
I did not try latest as threads mention 1.02.21 only
Used IPTV PlugIn on USB Stick with Playlist.m3u .....
Code: Select all
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,Channel1
http://localhost:81/udp/239.255.0.1:1234

In VLC Streaming...
UDP Legacy
IP: 239.255.0.1
Port: 1234
No Transcoding

Bandwidth was limited to about a 10Mb Stream - too low for my project, but happy I had some success.
What's funny is I have a Satellite Receiver with a similar Sigma Chip Set, and it too has a very limited streaming bandwidth.

@m2r: are you interested in creating a wiki page with the necessary steps filled in in order to help others who are trying to do the same thing?

A Wiki Page for this seems a little extreme. or are you talking Streaming in general - as I am "streaming challenged" :)

With the limited bandwidth, I am not to interested in the WDTV anymore, but will help anyone recreate the steps I took.
Also, streaming with a Multicast IP takes down my wireless router.

A MAG-250 IPTV STB will be my solution for the time being.

I was thinking alog the steps:
* describe what you wanted to accomplish
* describe which software packages and what configuration you did on the wdtv
* ideally, build the steps using a test url so that it can be duplicated by others.

You can describe the process in this thread and I will upload it to the wiki. The idea is - we're still lacking documentation, and our best bet is to encourage the people who manage to solve a specific problem to document it for other users, so others can pick up the idea later on.
Personally, I haven't attempted streaming on the wdtv, and could use some pointers when I will first try it...

It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a complete account of what you did (and how you tested) to serve as a starting point. Others can fill in the gaps and expand in the future.

* describe what you wanted to accomplish

My goal was / is to stream HD Satellite feeds from Commercial Satellite Receiver to TV without using a PC
Most Feeds are 40Mbit - yes "40" Megabit
The Commercial Satellite Receiver has built-in UDP Streaming via Gigabit port
All done via Wired connection - not wireless.

* describe which software packages and what configuration you did on the wdtv

WDLXTV Live with Firms....
1.02.21-WDLXTV-Live-0.4.7.3 [flash]
1.02.21_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.5.1 [flash]
I did not try latest as threads mention 1.02.21 only
Used IPTV PlugIn on USB Stick with Playlist.m3u .....

* ideally, build the steps using a test url so that it can be duplicated by others.

Used IPTV PlugIn on USB Stick with Playlist.m3u .....
Code: Select all
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,Channel1
http://localhost:81/udp/239.255.0.1:1234

Using the IPTV Plugin, it has a built-in UDPXY running at http://localhost:81
VLC or Streaming Device is set to stream to 239.255.0.1:1234 (Multicast IP, so it goes to all devices on network - Unicast address (192.168.x.x) did not work.)
Using Multicast IP brings down (overloads) my Wireless Router.

Code: Select all
Personally, I haven't attempted streaming on the wdtv, and could use some pointers when I will first try it...

I am Streaming Challenged, so if I can do it, anyone can.
The proper Playlist format was the key, and using Multicast IP.
My first attempts were using the wrong format....
udp://@:1234
udp://192.168.x.x:1234 (IP of WDTV)

Then I looked at a few of the other Streaming Plugins like "Freeview" and saw the answer of how the Playlist should be formatted.
Now if someone know to get around the WDTV's Bandwidth Limit, I would be very interested - Third Party UDPXY Server possibly - I have no clue :)
