Can't get plugins to work

Postby Z0r0b » Sat Dec 15, 2012 1:01 am

I've just flashed 1.05.04_V_WDLXTV.COM_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.5.1.1 on WD Live but for the life of me can't get plugins to work. I just keep getting the user notice that the plugin folder needs to be created. Of course i already created it, but it's not being detected. Also from the plugins menu, Reboot doesn't work and the option to create the folder does nothing, even if i select it for my other USB drive. I've done some searching and i'll i could find was suggestions to try different usb media. I've tried 4 different memory sticks and all the same result. They are all FLASH32 formatted and i always safely ejected them.

Where am i going wrong?

Oops sorry, copy paste error. It's flashed with 1.02.21_WDLXTV.COM_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.5.1.1

Ok so I did this.
Removed USB Media HDD from USB2.
Moved boot stick (4GB FAT32 Toshiba) from USB1 to USB2. Rebooted
After reboot, the OSD showed the plugins. I downloaded some plugins and rebooted. Then activated plugins and rebooted.
Reconnected Media HDD to USB1, Rebooted.
After the reboot with the usb devices swapped from their original poistions, i'm back to square one. Plugins are disabled and i get the message that i need to create the .wdtvext-plugins folder.

Still not sure what I'm doing wrong.

ps. I read the FAQ and wiki before posting. :)

Is there anyone that can help me with this? The issue still remains and its happening on a second WD TV Live. As stated before, flashed with 1.02.21_WDLXTV.COM_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.5.1.1. Plugins work fine as long as the only usb device connected is the flash drive. As soon as I add the HDD drive to the mix and reboot, plugins are disabled (I get the notice that the plugins folder is missing).

I've tried multiple types of flash drives and the same problem occurs regardless. It also doesn't matter which USB the flash or HDD is inserted. The end result is the same - when both are connected, plugins don't work.

It depends which drive is mounted first, that drive is searched for plugins.
Easy solution would be to copy .wdtvext-plugins folder to both devices.

You can also try to early mount the drive containing the plugins but I'm not sure if this affects the plugin search.
Another method worth trying is to set ROOT_UUID config setting to the UUID of your drive with the plugins, again not sure this affects plugin search but worth a try.

I haven't tested the above methods, I don't have access to my WDTV atm.

Thanks for the reply, I'm getting somewhere now. I forgot to mention that I had already tried early mount of the USB and it didn't help. I also tried ROOT_UUID, but it didn't help either (thought it was only for non-flash version anyway).

Is there anyway to confirm that early mount is working? It is checked in the WEC and the usb stick has the empty .mnt file in the root folder. I would have thought that this would resolve the issue.

Failing that, is there any harm in running plugins from the HDD instead of the flash drive?

Thanks again for the help!

Early mounted drives appear under /tmp/mnt by UUID.
It doesn't matter if you load plugins from flash drive or hdd.
