Development resumed on wdtvext - 1.05.04 supported !!!!!

Postby pibos » Sat Mar 24, 2012 8:40 am

Hi all

I've resumed work on wdtvext and planning on releasing a new version for FW 1.05.04.

At the moment I am doing lots of mips asm related work and mapping the required apis.
As soon as I get my hand on a wdtv live hardware I will be able to start testing on it.

If any issues have emerged for the old version, in the time I've been out of loop,
please describe them here, with as much details as possible so I can reproduce and fix them.

If there are feature requests, I will require someone else to manage them and tell me what is to be done for the new version.
@b-rad, can you suggest someone??

I'll keep you up to date with the progress

Hey pibos,

great to see you back here :D
I just sent you 40€ for a new Live, I haven't had more in my paypal account just now, so I hope some more peoeple join is so you can get a new device asap.

Furthermore I will start with some bugs/flaws in the latest version which would be nice to get fixed:

  • getParam()/setParam() don't work in onPageEnter() and onPageCreated()
  • JavaScript timers don't work (setTimeout()/setInterval())
  • Intercept keys - For most keys it's possible to suppress the execution of the original dmaosd function of that key when you do a return true from onPageKey(), but it's not working for all keys. I have to (re-)evaluate which keys work/don't work in particular pages (will update this post)

Feature requests:
I guess I can speak for all the plugin developers that the most interesting feature would be custum page support. :mrgreen:
Maybe JS sqlite support would be quite nice...

Greetz,
recliq

PS: I can try to manage feature requests.

this is great news :mrgreen:

donation sent

and I encourage others to do the same

only item I know of that recliq has not mentioned

an updated js engine, the current does not support JSON object

recliq wrote:It seems you have to use eval since the javascript engine in WDTVExt doesn't support the JSON object :(
It's supported in JavaScript-C 1.8.1 and higher but WDTVExt is based on JavaScript-C 1.8.0.

Glad to see you back on board!

Just so you know, WD has been promising a final firmware release for the Live and Live Plus. Initially scheduled for January, then February, and now March, they keep delaying it due to "unforseen issues".

So, you might have to redo some of the 1.05.04-based work in a few months. Thankfully it shouldn't be as radical as when they went from nanoX to directfb.

BTW, good luck on getting a new Live. The device has been replaced by the Live Streaming, which is not hackable as WD are now encrypting parts of the firmware. Just be careful which model # you end up purchasing.
