Login using telnet, and run the script manually, by typing:

Code: Select all
randomwallpaper

Do you get any error message?

Double check your path, by doing "ls /path/you/configured" and making sure you get the folder content and not any error message.

Also, be careful with uppercase and lowercase.

Check in your settings that you didn't enable USB_POWER_OFF.

Otherwise, no other idea. The script runs, the path is there, but the script is unable to access the path you tell it. I'll do some testings tomorrow night using a FAT32 disk to see if I can reproduce the issue (my USB disk is ext3).

as a last resort... i formatted my 1GB thumb drive to EXT3 using GPARTED... i created a "wallpaper" folder on the drive and moved my 6 JPG files to it. I made sure randomwallpaper.app.bin was on the root of the thumbdrive. Updated the folder path in the webend app configuration... and it still doesnt work. lol

I used telnet and ran the command "randomwallpaper" and i still get the same message: "Died at line 26" :(

just thought i would let you know! thank you! :)

hey Merlin,

I'm finally giving it a try, same problems as bolts4breakfast.
app is running of 32GB FAT32

here's what I've tried,
set the path per tool tip location, reboot , then power off, power on - nope
set the path to /tmp/media/usb/USB1/3480-9806/.wdtvext-plugins/Tools/backgrounds/
which I believe is simply sim-linked to the tool tip location anyways - no go
ls /tmp/media/usb/USB1/3480-9806/.wdtvext-plugins/Tools/backgrounds/ - produces list of backgrounds

next idea, disable tools plugin, as I had previously used it to set the background wallpaper, reboot .... - still no go
just let me know if you need me to test something else out

only thing different, is running the app manually, dies at line 25

I just went over the code with b-rad (who is far more experienced than me at Perl), and narrowed down the issue. It was working for me because it would fallback to the default location, which did contain wallpapers :)

I'll try to have an updated version out either tonight or tomorrow.

Actually thanks for this but I just tried your newly updated RandomWallpaper v0.9.1 and it works w/o a hitch.

I don't know if this is on my end or something to do with your script but after the random background changes I go to browse videos (in list or thumbnail modes) and the background reverts to the background that was prior to cold reboot. Not really a problem for me since I don't mind having different backgrounds for different "menus" but something for you to try to figure out if you want to.

Thanks and good job RMerlin!
