@Martin_L - I am using an iPad to access the webend. When viewing the list of albums or songs, I cannot scroll to view the next set of items; only the first 8 items are visible. There is no visible scroll bar. That is why I was suggesting a button which when selected would display the next 8 items (e.g. Albums, songs). Let me know if I can help further.

Cheers, Calypso

@ Calypso
Access the control going to http://'wdtv_ip':8080 in the iPad browser.
Create a link in the main screen for future uses.

Best,
Martin_L

@ andi_s

Does an external program like Kinsky work? (this allows playing music in sequence, but it requires that the "controller" computer stays on while sequencing. I worked in my solution to avoid the need for the second computer to be continuously on).
It also requires a DLNA server in your network. In case you do not have one, you can download an use minidlna on your wdlxtv.

@Martin_L - Used the WDTV IP:8080 and it works perfectly from the iPad. Thanks.

@Martin_L - I noticed that the album art, title , artist, etc. are not displayed. Is this implemented? Thanks, Calypso.

I suppose that you refer to the "currently playing" info.
Not implemented for that. I thought about it but it is non-essential and unfortunately I do not have much time right now because of my job.
If I rely on the wdtv.cas database, showing title, album and artist should not be extremely difficult and I plan to try to get that for a new version (unfortunately I do not have a release date for that).
I would really like to be able to extract the tags info from the media files (mp3, m4a...) directly, but I do not know how to do that with perl or whether there is any auxiliary program in the wdlxtv for doing that.

Browsing by album, title and artist IS implemented. You need to have the wdtv library enabled and it works for local (USB) files. You have to select which USB database you want to use in the config page. Then move to the catalog page.

Enjoy,

@Martin_L: you can try this module from CPAN: http://search.cpan.org/~chengang/Mediainfo-0.08/lib/Mediainfo.pm
The nice thing about perl is there are modules for about everything :)

@ Martin_L

Couldn't really get it to work. Kinsky finds the WDTV one in five times, can play one song, then it freezes.

I tried to see if the webplayer works for me with the library setting, but maybe I messed up something, cause I can't even get the built in library to work...?

----
fwiw, I got the wdtv library running once I removed my usb hub and plugged in the drive directly.
Unfortunately that didn't change my "plays only one song" problem.

Hi There,

first of all: nice application, that was what i am looking for.

Two questions:

1. is it normal that i loose the playlist, after the device is turned off (completly, not only standby)
2. is there any chance to randomize the tracks? (it seems there is no really shuffle function, but maybe i can do it "manuallly" once with some script i write...where is the playlist be stored?)

Thanks a lot
Dom
