@psychodad: because it's a lot easier ;)
You don't need to set up a crosscompile toolchain (which i never got working properly)
b-rad posted a debian squeeze image .bin which you can mount and chroot into, then you can apt-get whatever you need to compile on wd

If someone have problems with audio in mkv (like in last Eureka.S04E05.720p.HDTV.x264-IMMERSE) you can try remux mkv file with mkvtoolnix. You must set compression algorithm to none in audio and video.

might it not have been infinitely better to patch the source to set those damn annoying header compression settings to 'none' by default, so as not to have to keep reminding people over&over? ;)

Great news :)

With help Moritz Bunkus (creator MkvToolnix) I compile alternate version MKVToolnix with default set header compression to none.

Now just type in commandline:

mkvmerge -o <output file> <source file>

and is all - movie will be remuxed and audio from movies with header compression now work.

Today i will upload new version :)

New version MKVToolnix with alternative version MKVmerge.

Download:
MKVToolnix 4.2.0-nozlib

In app.bin - mkvmerge is normal version, mkvmerge2 is alternative version to remove zlib compression header

Usage:

Type in commandline:

mkvmerge2 -o <output file> <source file>

Hello player_sct! I really need such tool to remux some mkv directly with WD. Can you explain to n00b how I can use your application?
I download it and put into my HDD, but I cannot start from commandline mkvmerge2 -o....
What should I do?
Please step by step!

Did you use the last provided version?
http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=568&start=20#p11162

If you have a open telnet/ssh session and enter "mkvmerge2", you should get a long list of available parameters.

If it's working, you can use the following syntax to remove the compression in mkv-files:
mkvmerge2 -o <name_of_new_file> <name_of_source_file>

Moved on to the RaspberryPi + xbian (XBMC).
Thank you all for 2 great years and all your work to provide such fantastic firmware. Also a big thank you to the guys in the DD thread for all their ongoing support.
Good luck to all of you and perhaps we will see us in any Raspberry forum, cheers :-)
