Someone else having problems with transmission? It's freezing my wdtv (completely frozen, no ssh, web, if i watch movie at the same time it freezes too), after a random amount of time (usually about 30 minutes). I've tried limiting max peers to 30, and d/l speed to 1,5Mb/s with no luck, also tried every option on/off with no effect. Switching between the three modes of allocation also doesn't help.
I have two harddisks, and the problem is there with both of them.
I had similar problems with rtorrent, that's the reason i've switched to transmission, but it's the same here...
I didn't had any problems with Deluge, but i know why it's not in the latest fw, and it's a good reason, i'm not whining about it.
I'm on 100Mbit connection, and maybe this has something to do with the problem, but i've limited the speed with no luck.

I've noticed that with deluge (allocation set to compact), even if i download 10 torrents at a time, with a speed of about 2.8-3Mb/s (i think the cpu is capping here, because same torrents are downloading near the max capacity of the 100Mbit line on my laptop), the harddisks are quiet, but with rtorrent and transmission, i'm hearing a lot of hdd thrashing, and these are some really quiet harddisks, i've never heard them before seeking that loudly.
I've found a topic in the popcorn hour forum about transmission. http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=36587 But i didn't found a sollution there...

I have this same problem buth with speeds higher than 850 kb/s. When i remove download limit in transmission - after 10-15 minutes my wd is completely frozen. I set max download rate to 800-850 kb/s and all is ok.

Transmission 2.03 ready to download :)

Download :Transmission 2.03

Changes from version 2.0:

* Fix NAT-PMP port forwarding issue on some systems
* Fix filename errors for torrents whose files are encoded in ISO-8859-1
* Fix rare crash on shutdown
* Fix the RPC server’s redirect URL to allow HTTPS proxies like stunnel
* Replace less-portable calls with posix nanosleep()
* Fix 2.02 bug where new transfers could not be added and the inspector would not appear

* Better tracker announce management when completed torrents are moved from the incomplete directory
* Speed up moving local data from one disk to another
* Better parsing of nonstandard magnet links

And from me new version level1 blacklist.

Tested on 0.4.2.0 firmware

Enjoy :)

I think I see what the problem...
As it turned out my hard drive (with mobile rack) has a low internal rate of copying.
In MC <1Mb/s for coping file from one directory to another. :evil:
So, if my download speed more then 1Mb/s (have 100Mbit/s network and inet theoretically ) hard drive and WD is stuck.
However transmission daemon use I/O operation extremely oftentimes

Daemon

* Let users specify a script to be invoked when a torrent finishes downloading
* Better support for adding per-torrent settings when adding a new torrent
* Optional pidfile support
* Option to start torrents paused
* Option to delete .torrent files from watch directory

Hello player_sct! I really Enjoyed with Transmission 2.03, thank you!
But I don`t understand how I can "specify script to be invoked when a torrent finished downloading" ?
I want to start such script when downloading of all files finished: STOP TRANSMISSION, POWER OFF USB1. The idea is to stop my HDD after finishing downloads.
But I am not sure that it is correct -how then I will start Transmission??? After I will power on my WD via remote -it will start or not (HDD and Transmission also?)

Hello LS00

Unfortunately, I do not use scripts, so I can not help you. Try read https://trac.transmissionbt.com/wiki/Scripts and Transmission forum https://forum.transmissionbt.com/

Sorry :) One script i use - to update level1 file. This is modified script from Transmission wiki page

Code: Select all
#!/bin/sh

PID="`pidof transmission-daemon`"
if [ -n "$PID" ]; then
        kill $PID
fi

echo -n "Waiting for the daemon to exit "
sleep 2

COUNT=1
while [ -n "`pidof transmission-daemon`" ]; do
        COUNT=$((COUNT + 1))
        if [ $COUNT -gt 60 ]; then
                echo -n "transmission-daemon doesn't respond, killing it with -9"
                kill -9 `pidof transmission-daemon`
                break
        fi

        sleep 2
        echo -n "."
done

echo " done"

cd /config/blocklists/
if wget http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/level1.gz 1>/dev/null 2>&1 ; then
        rm -f level1 && gunzip level1.gz
        echo "blocklist updated"
else
        echo "blocklist not updated"
fi

cd /etc/init.d/
./S97transmission start

Hmm <1Mb/s is low..very low.
My transfer coping file from one directory to another on system with working transmission is 2-2.5 Mb/s - on 2,5" 5400 rpm Hitachi ext3.
My WD is frozen when my download speed is higher than 850 kb/s.
