I was very much afraid that this new version of HD Sync might not work.
But now it works great. I guess every media artist is kind of looking forward to use this for multi channel video installations.
And after reading every post and the manual and the code page and everything very carefull and of course, reading again.... I think there are some hints missing in the manual.
And a small thing for windows users: When you write into the .config file. You have to use a text editor with line feed (in short: LF). Word does not do that but Open Office gives you the option. If you have line feed than your .config text file will be displayed the right way.
This is my setting: I use 4 WDTV Live media players and the 1.02.21 WDLXTV v0.4.7.3 firmware.
The setting in the config file is STATIC and 4 channels. All players are hooked up by LAN cables to the D-Link DIR-615.
My Labtop is connected via WLAN and the software PuTTY (for windows) into the log file of the players by using the IP Adress of the players (f.ex. No.1) 192.168.0.1 and telnet. A window pops open and you type in „root“ then you can use the command line provided by Jaromil: tail -f /tmp/hdsync.log and you can read what the player are doing.
Another thin I found helpful was the command: ifconfig (it tells you the settings of the players.)
And by the way: My USB-sticks use FAT32 and not a Linux file System like ext3. Ext3 give me the creeps as I am a Windows user and there is no real comptability between the systems. FAT32 works fine for me.
And this is how I made it work.I used the D-Link DIR-615 (about 23€ and it has WLAN and 4 LAN ports) as a router since I could not make any LAN Switch work for my setting or any setting I tried. And I tried three different switches.
So please log into your Router from your computer browser typing
http://192.168.0.1 and do this:
- enable multicast (just a small mark in a square)
- change router IP from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.10 because it solves a conflict between the server WDTV live Player (No.1) and the router because the STATIC setting will always give the Player (No. 1) the IP 192.168.0.
1 In the networks settings of the media players I put in manually:
Configure the Gateway and the DNS in every WDTV Player manuelly. Chose same as IP Adress of Player, which is exactly the same number as you will choose in the config file for „channel“.
For ex. Player No.3:
Gateway 192.168.0.
3 [same as IP adress of media player]
DNS 192.168.0.
10 [this is the Ip adress of the router]
And now, after 50 hours of testing, I can finally prepare to take the players to Japan and create my mutli channel video installation at the Funasaka Biennale near Osaka.
If your are interested to find out what I will do with my media players you can check my web page.
