Nice video :) However, were you displaying 37 different videos, or were they still images? It's hard to tell from the video...

Edit, oh, here you can see it's video: http://vimeo.com/ambarella/video-wall-redux.
Out of curiosity, what is the maximum delay you can get between players? Also, did you use the app.bin (with 37 usb drives) or did you create a special firmware for this exhibit?

mad_ady: they were 37 different videos, that's what hdsync is about. The best result usually obtained with mpeg2 compressed at approx12kbit/s.

the delay is down to very low value, lab tests have shown 1-2 frames difference with the last 1.0 version, but with very short clips there are some syncstart errors sometimes, I'm working to isolate them.

AFAIK Jeff and everyone else has used the app.bin I'm providing, on top of B-Rad's original .21 firmware. Strangely enough, other firmware versions seem to not work.

WD changed a lot from 1.02.21 to 1.03.. not only that they changed the GUI display engine from nanox to directfb but also the uPnP handling changed a bit (or at least the behaviour).
But I guess this doesn't matter for a project like this since you won't use the OSD or other features WD implemented in later fw versions... ;)

ACK about the UPNP behaviour change, 10x recliq

Is there a way that you know to distinguish between currently running firmware versions, for instance from a shell script or even better a C program, like a file in /etc with the WDLXTV version?

That will help in case I'll try to update to recent WDTV firmware in future.

/conf_src/version should tell you your current version, but it doesn't get updated if you are running a svn release (the wdlxtv version might be slightly off, but the wdtv version will be correct).

Small Question: I set up 2 x WDTV HD live boxes with HDSync.
The sync seems to work, but it doesnt loop the video.
Any hints?

Thanks a lot!

To report a problem please always attach to your message the contents of the file /tmp/hdsync.log
One can get that file via telnet or ssh from the running WDTV box

Hello,
i was very happy to find hdsync as it is the perfect solution for my video project.

but unfortunately i was not able to get it to work so far.
hw is : WDAAP0000NBK

wdlxtv version is 1.02.21_WDLXTV.COM_WDLXTV_LIVE-0.4.7.3

hdsync is ver 1.0

wdlxtv is installed and running but i believe the hdsync app is not running at all. i could not find the /tmp/hdsync.log file.
i formatted a usb stick with an ext3 fs, put the files hdsync.app.bin and hdsync.conf and the video/myvideo.mov on it. As i understood the manual it should run...

the wdplayer is just at the video menue after starting...nothing happens...

how can i see what is going on? telnet/ssh/ftp works but i am not a unix expert to know how i test whats going wrong....
or do i have a too new Hw revision?

the conf file looks like that:
# ----------------------------------------------------
# configuration file for hdsync

# Network configuration to use: DYNAMIC or STATIC
# DYNAMIC = use the DHCP daemon on LAN to assign IPs
# STATIC = auto-configure IPs for LAN (use this if you don't know)
# MANUAL = don't change the current configuration
HDSYNC_NETWORK= STATIC

# number of this video channel
HDSYNC_CHANNEL=2
# be careful this number is unique across your players
# channel 1 is always the server, others are clients

HDSYNC_SLEEP=0

# total video channels expected
TOTAL_CHANNELS=2

# watchdog activation
# if you like to run an additional watchdog process to look over
# the playback and avoid long-term freezes, fill in here the duration
# of the video in seconds, approximated to the minimum (experimental feature)
# WATCHDOGTIMER=360

thanks for your answers in advance,
Joa

Hi Joa,

you hit a bug with your test and you were not alone, other artists working with HDSync reported it to me (thanks Eddie!)

so it is now fixed in http://code.dyne.org/hdsync/commit/?id=0f526e22ed2704cea72900d777f6b6da43801cd0
(I've also posted more details on our mailinglist http://lists.dyne.org/lurker/list/syncstarter.en.html )

I'm going to roll out a new release to insure that sync works with the static network configuration setting.

ciao
