RMerlin,

I will do the trial and error and let you know the results, hopefully it's not too many files. One thing I also notice is performance is much better using this instead of Samba network connections. Yes my database is located on the root of the USB disk.

DLNA is designed for streaming media content, so it has much less overhead than Samba. That's why I have been mostly using DLNA myself for the past year (until I started messing with moviesheets for my TV shows).

The idea is mostly to see if you can isolate one or two files that are causing MiniDLNA to hang, and then run "ffmpeg -i filename.xxx" on them to see what types they are. This might point me toward some specific libraries that I could try to update.

I have just released a new build of MiniDLNA (1.3), based on the latest CVS snapshot.

Unfortunately I don't have any detailed changelog as the MiniDLNA author didn't make one with the 1.0.19 release, but from browsing through the CVS commits log it seems to be mostly bugxfixes and tweaks, with no new functionality.

Details are in the first post, you can download it from my website (see my signature).

First thanks to RMerlin for compiling this ap.

I am having a few problems getting in working though.
What I am trying to do is stream movies via the WDTV Live from a USB attached hard drive. I am using firmware 0.4.5.3 base 1.03.49.

I followed the instruction for the install and all went well. I can see minidlna is enabled via the web gui and I have the following config file in /conf/minidlna.conf

port=8200
media_dir=V,/tmp/mnt/D2E0B81FE0B80C2B/Movies/
friendly_name=WDLXTV Server
db_dir=/tmp/mnt/D2E0B81FE0B80C2B/minidlna
log_dir=/tmp/mnt/D2E0B81FE0B80C2B/minidlna
album_art_names=Cover.jpg/cover.jpg/AlbumArtSmall.jpg/albumartsmall.jpg/AlbumArt.jpg/albumart.jpg/Album.jpg/album.jpg/Folder.jpg/folder.jpg/Thumb.jpg/thumb.jpg
inotify=yes
enable_tivo=no
strict_dlna=no
notify_interval=900
presentation_url=http://192,168.1.14:8200/
serial=12345678
model_number=1

where 192.168.1.14 is the IP address of the WDTV on my network

I can see the following in the minidlna log which is also stored on my USB drive

[2011/05/01 18:08:52] minidlna.c:848: warn: Starting MiniDLNA version 1.0.19.1 [SQLite 3.5.9].
[2011/05/01 18:08:52] minidlna.c:871: warn: Creating new database...
[2011/05/01 18:08:52] minidlna.c:936: warn: HTTP listening on port 8200
[2011/05/01 18:08:52] scanner.c:726: warn: Scanning /tmp/mnt/D2E0B81FE0B80C2B/Movies
[2011/05/01 18:17:43] scanner.c:797: warn: Scanning /tmp/mnt/D2E0B81FE0B80C2B/Movies finished (247 files)!

So no errors there.

My problem is that I cannot see the minidlna server on either the xbox 360 ro Windows Media Player 12.

Other things to add are the USB HDD is correctly mounted to /tmp/mnt and umsp is enabled.

Has anyone any ideas?
Am I right in saying that I should see the dlna server appear under libraries in Windows Media Player 12 when it is working?

I have another problem with MiniDLNA regarding playing movies.

1. All my usb data get scanned in correctly
2. With a Upnp client like plugplayer (iphone) i can browse the movies/mp3s/...
3. Playing selected MP3's to my WDTVLIVE works fine.
4. Playing selected movies to my WDTVLIVE doesn't work correctly, instead it plays/show the jpeg image (moviesheet DVD cover file)
Why is the movie not played ?

I entered V,/usb/...... in my scanned folders entry

In directories where only an AVI or MKV is located, (so no folder.jpg / moviename_sheet.jpg, ....) the movie plays correctly.

Anyone with the same problem ?

fyi: directory structure : (each movies is located in a seperate folder to work with moviesheets)
ex:
/tmp/media/usb/USB2/11FC-356C/Films/mkv/Going The Distance

/tmp/media/usb/USB2/11FC-356C/Films/mkv/Going The Distance/Going The Distance.2010.DvDRip.mkv

in /tmp/media/usb/USB2/11FC-356C/Films/mkv/Going The Distance are also located several jpeg image files.

Using Zappo tv as client all my movies shows up with a video file icon but it says the format is jpg. When loading the movie it just shows the movie's thumbnail.
For my dvd rips (Video_ts folder) the thumbnail is at the same folder level as the video_ts, and therefore not in same folder as the actually movie vob fileset. And these show up with video file icon and as mpeg files and plays just fine.
So i tried deleting the thumbnails of some movies, and after a miniDLNA reboot the movies show up with the correct format and plays just fine.
I Guess for me that this problem is due to the two files has the same name ex. 300.avi - 300.jpg
Exactly the same issue with other clients as 8player and Media Link player Lite.

Anybody else experiencing this problem.? any solution/workaround.?

And also thanks so much for this app. :D It's great for my music.

I have the same problem with my movies (same moviename.mkv and moviename.jpg) results in unknown jpg movie format in the table browser of the dlna client software.
See post above this one also.

Did you find a solution for this ?

That's correct. I just tried it here to be sure it wasn't a bug in 1.3, and Minidlna does show under my Windows Media Player 12 library list.

Try leaving the MINIDLNA_URL field empty and restarting MiniDLNA.

Could be a compatibility issue, as not every client and servers work well together. You will have to contact the MiniDLNA or Plugplayer authors about this unfortunately, there isn't much I can do.

Did you try with Windows Media Player 12 (or another PC-based DLNA client)?

This problem is available on ALL DLNA client, tried it with :
- Plugplayer (iphone)
- MLPLayer (iphone)
- ZappoTV (iphone)
- 8player (iphone)
- XBMC as DLNA client (PC)

- Microsoft Media PLayer(PC) runs ok, all movies are visible (thumbnail) and movie starts when played.

XBMC has the same problem, although on all maps where i removed moviename.jpg, movies is also visible when played. On all other folders size is 0kb (only jpg)

I tried a range of settings but none worked.

After a bit more digging on the internet, it looks like there is a problem with my router making wired dlna servers available to wireless clients.
For anyone interested it is the standard Cisco router given with UPC Ireland.
