VIM 7.2 for WD TV Live - v 0.1

Postby chameleon_skin » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:06 pm

I spend about half my life looking at VIM, so not having it on the WD TV Live was getting painful for me. Nano just doesn't cut it.

With that in mind, I packaged up VIM 7.2 for the WD TV Live. I've ensured that all documentation and plugin support is there, including syntax highlighting for php. If you write code on your WD TV, you'll like this.

VERSION 0.1
---------------
http://www.mediafire.com/file/4d3bvr3z2ovhdsy/vim_7.2_for_WDLXTV-0.1.zip

From the README:

Vim 7.2 for WD TV Live v 0.1
Author: Jake Reichert aka Chameleon Skin (jake@jakereichert.com)

VIM packaged for use on WD TV Live. All vim configuration should
be performed on the file /apps/vim/vimrc.

If you wish to use vim instead of vi, add the following to your
/conf/profile:

alias vi=vim

All vim files are in the directory /app/vim/vim72. If you want to add
vim plugins, this is where you should put them (since $HOME/.vimrc is
not writeable on the WD TV Live). That is, install plugins as if you
were installing them system-wide in VIM and not for a particular user.

Still to do:
------------
At some point I'd like to add ctags support so that you can use this as a full-blown IDE - when this is installed you can make use of some of the great plugins for development in PHP, Ruby, or Java that do things like tab completion, function browsing, dependency management, etc.

A question is Vim still working ? I tried to install and when running vim I have the following output

/apps/vim/bin/vim.basic: error while loading shared libraries: libgpm.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Working fine here, which WDLXTV version are you running?

Yup, I confirm the vim version in the app.bin repo is broken. It complains about a missing libgpm. I remember it was broken when I uploaded it to the repo, but I didn't have time to look into it and nobody else complained...

In the mean time you can use the version attached on this thread.

Since I seem to have the missing lib I will try to fix the app this evening.

I'm wondring if I have repacked this app in the past...
Code: Select all
# ldd /apps/vim/bin/vim.basic
   libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x2aad8000)
   libncurses.so.5 => /lib/libncurses.so.5 (0x2ab64000)
   libselinux.so.1 => /lib/libselinux.so.1 (0x2abb4000)
   libacl.so.1 => /lib/libacl.so.1 (0x2abe4000)
   libgpm.so.2 => /apps/vim/lib/libgpm.so.2 (0x2abfc000)
   libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x2ac14000)
   libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x2ad78000)
   /lib/ld.so.1 (0x2aaa8000)
   libattr.so.1 => /lib/libattr.so.1 (0x2ad8c000)

Can one of you please check if there is /apps/vim/lib/libgpm.so.2 in your app.bin versions?
Here is my version: vim.app.tgz

I remember I uploaded the app.bin to the repo and I extracted it from an existing app.bin on the wdtv forum. I don't remember who built it, but it wasn't built by you. You should completely replace the version in the repo with your version.

I remember that the app.bin I found on the forum did not come with libgpm, but it was using it from the system (if my memory serves me correctly it used to be included in the older firmwares...). But this was in the days of 0.4.2.x... Too long to recall...

I didn't compile this version, I think it's the compile from chameleon_skin, I just repacked it to include the missing lib I guess...

Should be enough to add the missing lib to svn.
