@ madgarth

THANK YOU. Your Idea was very good. I have never tried to use an ext firmware. It was a good start.

I confirm that you can use also 1.05 ext firmwares. I will try the 5.2.1 beta ext version this time and come back with the findings.

Thanks again

the only info I can provide you is that it creates a new file named eCrash.out.fd and its empty. 0KBs.

1.02 ext booted. i will camo back with my findings.

I'm glad you guys got out of the problems. I will try to reproduce the problem to understand it - currently I don't know what it could be...

So, I take it it's not a configuration problem, right? And when the box gave no video output you also had no network (by the way, are you using wired or wifi? Wifi needs the osd to run to load the correct driver, so if the osd crashes before loading wifi, you'd get no network. Wired should not be affected by osd). Also, apart from kroetkroet you guys didn't manage to use 1.05 at all right?

A few more questions:
1. What firmware version were you upgrading from?
2. Did you have WDTVEXT=ON?
3. Did you have a .wdtvext-plugins folder with wdtvext plugins on your USB drive? If yes, which?
4. Did you try to boot without any disks connected?
5. Can you try to boot the 1.05 0.5.2.1 root.bin and tell me if it behaves the same way?

I will try to flash 1.05 as well to see if I can reproduce the problem, but I don't have hdmi...

Any problems on 1.02?

Ok, thanks for the info, distrata. If ext3 failed as well it rules out some problems.

Can you give me the output of these commands (from telnet on 1.02 is fine)?
Code: Select all
egrep -i "wdtvext|hdmi|root" /conf/config
ls -l /conf
cat /conf/wdtvext*
ls -l /path/to/your/sdcard/
ls -l /path/to/your/sdcard/.wdtvext*

Replace /path/to/your/sdcard with the actual path.

Also, you can enable DMAOSD_DEBUG=2 and send me /tmp/dmaosd.log and /tmp/wdtvext.log (if it exists) (these are available only if you have networking working after it crashes)

Thanks for the help

What do you mean by actual path?

It would be something like /tmp/media/usb/USBx/uuid/ or /tmp/mnt/uuid/. Either run
Code: Select all
mount | grep sd

Or use the webend to find the actual paths.

So you mean the path of the usb that the box boot? OK I will post the results later.

Here are the results:
Code: Select all
# egrep -i "wdtvext|hdmi|root" /conf/config
VIDEO_OUT='HDMI'
HDMI_DEEP_COLOR='0'
WDTVEXT='ON'
ROOT_UUID=''
FORCEHDMI='OFF'
ROOT_TAG=''
WDTVEXT_WEB_REPO='Main,http://wdtvext.wdlxtv.com'
# ls -l /conf

# cat /conf/wdtvext*
/wdtvext/plugins/P00Reloader/Reloader.plugin.js
/wdtvext/plugins/P10ExtSheet/ExtSheet.plugin.js
/wdtvext/plugins/P50Shoutcast.plugin.js

# ls -l /tmp/media/usb/USB1/5285-2139/.wdtvext*
ls: /tmp/media/usb/USB1/5285-2139/.wdtvext*: No such file or directory

Also the CA certificates in rtorrent 0.9.2 are not working. I am getting the same error with the 0.5.2 firmware and I can not find any of the files you mention considering dmaosd_debug.

Hope it helped.

Thanks for the output. It seems some of my commands were incomplete, but I could get some info from your output.
I see that you have WDTVEXT=ON. This might explain the crashes you get. Here's what you can try (you can try to boot the root.bin instead of flashing):

Set WDTVEXT=OFF (config_tool -c WDTVEXT=OFF). Reboot the root.bin and see if OSD is up and running. If it is, then I recommend the following:

1. Delete /conf/wdtvext-plugins
Code: Select all
rm -f /conf/wdtvext-plugins

2. Reactivate WDTVEXT from the webend and reboot.
3. See if it still works.
4. Enable and download desired wdtvext plugins manually from the OSD one by one. Most plugins should work (except MediaNavigationv4 which is too slow).
5. Expect ocasional crashes :( The OSD should always boot, but can crash randomly when pressing keys...

Let me know how it goes!

Ok, I managed to reproduce the problem. Here's what I did:
1. Reset everything (from webend)
2. Booted 1.05 root.bin
The firmware boots up to the point where it starts DMAOSD. I get a flicker onscreen (blue background) for half a second, then I get black screen. DMAOSD indeed crashes:
Code: Select all

Indeed, at this point I have no network settings (I think it's DMAOSD's job to set the network).
It's strange - the problem appears when some config setting is missing, but at this point, I'm not sure which. I think I will have to do a diff and isolate the problem. I will return when I have more info, but thanks for the help so far (luckly it's a beta). It doesn't look like a WDTVExt issue...

Regarding rtorrent not working with curl's certificates - yes, it seems to be the case. It looks like a newer rtorrent version has an option to ignore certificate signatures. I will look into upgrading rtorrent...

Edit: Strange, starting with /bin/dmaosd.sh or /bin/dmaosd-wdtvext.sh turns on the OSD, but /etc/init.d/S70dmaosd crashes it.
Edit2: All crashes point to address 0x2c3b3c4c... I wonder what's there...
