it's nice to see there is still something going on
Seeing this thread made me finally register in this forum.

I am using "531be3c74a8f69337e7c2581fbab491a 1.05.04_V.EXT3-BOOT_LIVE-0.5.1.9.zip" from an USB Stick and till now it works without any problems so far.

Would it be useful if I do a flash, to find issues?

Yes, flashing might uncover issues with the transition to /bi2 (e.g. webend doesn't work for instance). I am curious if anyone with a plus can give it a try... I have a suspicion that for plus it will not load the squashfs module, but I can't test it...

They were discussing rewriting bits of the webend which would greatly improve performance. However, doing the rewrite is hard work and nobody ventured there

I'm not sure how the timeout is connected to the NAS, but if you can, please run the wget command as well.

Great to see some development on the trusty old WDTV Live.
I too moved away from it after it kept bugging me with random reboots and I was tired of trying to keep track of which TV shows I had watched. I really, really missed that feature from 1.02!
I currently have a root.bin of some version of 1.06 on it. I've only used it to watch fullsize bluray, since the Minix NEO7 I replaced it with is somewhat limited with them. Probably something about the cache, which may be a setting in XBMC I havent set optimally (because I don't know what it would be).

Ok, I dug some more in the kernel panic and it seems if you kill lld2d at the wrong time it will create a kernel panic. If you don't kill it it's fine but if you want to restart dmaosd without reboot you lose IR support because the older lld2d process keeps an exclusive lock on /dev/ir... I wonder if we can live without lld2d alltogether...
