How to transfer files to sda1 from pc?

Postby nemoprofeta » Mon Feb 13, 2012 7:57 am

I would like to transfer files directly from my pc to the drive connected to the wdtv. I installed firmware 1.02.21-0.5.1.1 and Samba is running. I am also able to access the webend.
However on my Winsows 7 pc I can't see the wdtv among the network resources.
I've found many thread talking about how to stream files from the pc, but I'm not interested in that.

Hello,

do bear in mind that samba is not the utmost efficient way to transfer files. I personally advice you to investigate the path of using FileZilla (free!) and use it to (secure) copy files to whatever directory (/tmp/media/...) on your wdlxtv platform. The greatest advantage is that FileZilla is able to resume (append) files when the connection drops or breaks, and also bandwidth throttling is very nice feature not to bring down your entire network while copying files

Hope this helps?

I'd have to poke around to find /dev/sda1

but I'd guess your purpose is to put something on an attached hdd
if yes
go to /tmp/media/usb/USBX/....

hdd's are listed there by name

If you go to the web interface, you can view the list of mounted devices, and their mount point.

Under Linux, /dev/sda1 is similar to having an entry in your storage manager (or device manager if you prefer). You don't access the disk directly, you have to access it through a mount point. A mount point is is the Linux equivalent of a drive letter.
