Differences between kernels

Postby JPNARF » Sat Sep 24, 2011 9:09 pm

Hi All,
I have a n00b doubt regarding kernels.

http://wiki.wdlxtv.com/Differences_between_kernels

I found issue after install Firmware WDLXTV-LIVE-0.5.1.1 (Based on 1.05.04) regarding USB Power off in standy mode.
http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=5010&start=320#p44355

I downgrade to Firmware WDLXTV-LIVE-0.4.7.3 (Based on 1.02.21), and the USB power off in standy mode is working properly.

Could be or is a good idea, use wdtvlive.fff file from WDLXTV-LIVE-0.4.7.3 (Based on 1.02.21) [Kernel 2.6.22.19-19-4 #7] instead of WDLXTV-LIVE-0.5.1.1 (Based on 1.05.04) [Kernel 2.6.22.19-19-4 #9] ?

Sorry for this n00b question

The differences in USB standby are not due to differences in kernels. There have been some changes in how the usb.power.off script works from 0.4.x.x releases to 0.5.x.x and now there are more checks done when powering off your USB port. The script refuses to power down your USB port if the checks are not ok.
You can try to flash 0.5.x.x with the fff file from 0.4.7.3 and see if you see any difference - I bet you won't.

To find out why your USB drive doesn't power down, look into the debug logs (from the web end), or run the command
Code: Select all
# usb.power.off
usb.power.off: app.bins are active, cannot turn off USB bus power!
