The LAM(e) firmware also makes different files in the config dir, so communicates differently with Netflix servers. I test drove the LAM(e) firwmare and had no problem watching Netflix here stateside with it, of course once I went back to my plus firmware Netflix refused to work and so began my multi week adventure on getting the damn thing activated again.

Here is a root.bin you can run, it is pure stock, and no I won't be making a special Latin American WDLXTV_PLUS--unless theres serious interest in it as I won't maintain a firmware which is not for me and serves no purpose except to eat up more of my time.

To run this from WDLXTV, telnet/ssh in and run the following:
Code: Select all
config_tool -c ROOT_TAG=1.06.18_L

follow the guidelines on USB booting if it doesn't work for you:

Hi, I am having problem to boot from the USB for some reason (noob here)
this is what I have done so far

1. format usb in EXT3
2. copied file root.bin-1.06.18_L into the usb root
3. Telnet to the WDLXTV Plus and enter the command config_tool -c ROOT_TAG=1.06.18_L
4. connect the USB key into the Live plus
5. disconnect power source from Live Plus and reconnect

System boot normally into the WDLXTV Plus, I have the 0.4.7.3 version, tried with the USB key only

I am not sure what i am doing wrong

I am also running on original US device and i am interested on running Netflix over Brazil.
I see that there is an root.bin executable over USB Drive there would make possible to run WD firmware for brazilian device at an US device, and finally access Brazilian Netflix.
My question is: to do that i need to flash WDLXTV over my device or could be possible to run that over original firmware?

Another question is that I am interested on making or change this root.bin-1.06.18_L back on a flashable file to overide my american firmware or making an WDLXTV brazilian Netflix firmware. And I would help to maintain this brazilian Netflix version of WDLXTV over time. Is there any possibility to help me start over this issue?

Another possibility is to have two separated Netflix on the same WDLXTV firmware, what do you think about it?

It would be really nice since brazilian Netflix started this month and the brazilian WD Live Plus equipment is over twice the price as the US WD LIve Plus.
WDTV brazilian community is about to increase since few equipments over here are available to use Netflix (samsung smart TV, PS3 and WDTV only)

Only WDLXTV can boot fw from USB.

Thanks, i will see if WD exchanges my american product with brazilian one. If no, i will try wdlxtv firmware and external brazilian boot bin file and revert back here.

Question, to be able to boot from USB using the LA version the root.bin must be in the USB root or in any folder in particular?

Hi All
Booting with the latin american firmware will let you log into netflix but it won't let you play anything
What I did was to install a VPN, I have one at an US office so for me it was no big deal, for all of you this also works

Please, make a special Latin American WDLXTV_PLUS.

There is a treat in http://www.htforum.com/vb/showthread.php/117261-Clube-do-WDTV-LIVE-HD-Media-Player with thousands of users expecting a solution for this "problem".

thanks in advance

Yeah, great article, but that article is for all the VPN's

That website is advising you hidemyass, but HMA is a high advertised VPN website. With that i mean that more people are using the same US server, so it will be very slowly.

Myself i'm using https://www.vpnaccounts.com for 3 weeks and for the speed, quality, connection and safety i give it a 10+ , so i'm more satisfied with this VPN than all the another VPN's what i've used before..

Acces to to US TV : https://www.vpnaccounts.com/watch-us-tv.html

Hope that will help you ;D
