So if i am reading this correctly. I can always just go back the ed firmware ... redo the netflix and watch a movie. I can then flash back to the latest B-rad firmware. I don't have to really mess with removing the conf file if i just want to rebuild from scratch. Are my assumptions correct?

Thanks,

Sorry guys, I've looked at the links provided in this thread but I'm really confused as to what I need to do in order to upgrade to WDLXTV and keep using Netflix (Canada).

I am on the latest stock firmware on the WDTV Live Plus, Netflix is working fine. [I have used WDLXTV in the past on a Live unit, but sold that a long time ago]. I'd like to update the Live Plus I now have to WDXLTV, but I can't find a thread that steps through what I need to do to upgrade from the stock firmware directly to WDLXTV and keep Netflix working.

Would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Again, looking to upgrade from stock firmware to WDLXTV and keep Netflix working.

TIA!

If you are on 1.06.16_B and netflix is working:
1) grab 1.05.04_b-WDLXTV-0.5.1.0 and place .ver and .bin from that file on usb drive
2) grab .fff from the link b-rad gave at the end of the first post of this thread and put it on the same usb drive along with the two files from 1)
3) flash with this usb drive

Thanks! To confirm, I am on 1.06.16_B and netflix is working.

However, I can't seem to find 0.5.1.0 for the Live Plus to download.

If I go tot he firmware download page, only 0.5.1.1 is available [1.05.04_B-WDLXTV-Plus-0.5.1.1 [flash]] and apparently that's the one that deletes the Netflix keys as far as I understand reading posts as well as the change release notes (I anticipate this is why you recommended 0.5.1.0)??

Posts and release note are causing me the confusion:

Here: http://forum.wdlxtv.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=5010&start=350 says "No. 0.5.1.1 uses the same kernel as 0.4.7.3, which didn't have that issue."

but in the changelog it has this..

0.5.1.1 - 2011-09-21
* enable usb 5V bus power off + deep sleep mode (b-rad)
* allow 'hot plug' of MSHEETDIR (b-rad)
* lots of extra logging, bug report fattened (b-rad)
* Issues:
** WDLXTV-PLUS DOES NOT SUPPORT 3TB HDD'S!!!! Tell WD you want this fixed (with netflix too)!!!
**** The GPL wdtvlive2.fff is 6mo old and lacks support for 3TB hdd's + it deletes netflix keys!

Thanks again!!

if you have netflix working on official 1.06 firmware, just flash to 1.05.04_B-WDLXTV-Plus-0.5.1.1, netflix works fine on it.
and yes, I m also in Canada and used netflix for a few months on different free trial accounts.

@teredactle: The changelog says the official kernel released with WD's original firmware is 6mo old, doesn't support 3TB hdds and deletes netflix keys. The kernel packed with the firmware is an older kernel and shouldn't pose a problem.

If you are in doubt, you can flash without the "fff" file.

Thanks for all your replies. I flashed it over the weekend, works great. Took me a little while as I missed the part about editing the VER file (then when I realized I remembered the same issue back when I had the LIVE version). All works fine, some of the plugins don't work so well, but all in all it's great!!

L O V E the option to configure it through a web browser!!!

Thanks for all the work on this!!

-I searched for this (thought I found it one day, then lost it): being able to just see video files rather than everything in the folder (JPGs, TXT, etc). Is there a way to do that. If I select videos and browse to network shares, it show everything wether it's a video or not. I think I read that this behaviour doesn't happen if files are local, just can't seem to find that post...

Cheers!

xmount the network share and access it through "Local Drives".

Thank you recliq!

Is there a way to "block" the device from seeing computers that have shares, or media servers. I'm setting the unit up for my dad, and just want it to have limited access so he doesn't get lost through all the options, shares, media servers etc..

Just curious if this is possible.

Cheers!

Not really possible to limit that, but if you use the xmount option recliq suggested, your father would always have to navigate to Video -> Local media -> Your mountpoint, and you can xmount only the stuff you want to give him access to.
