WDT-39029: info firmware

Postby FoxAdriano » Mon Dec 29, 2014 2:00 am

Hi, I have a 5 years old WDT (not Live). It is a WDT-39029. Its firmware is 1.03.01 WDLXTV-0.5.8.1
In your opinion can I update the firmware with a new one?
Thanks

Out of curiosity:

1) When will it ship a WDTV for 4K files?

2) At this time which is the best WD Western Digital TV model to read video files?

3) The new WD Western Digital TV model read better video files than old version? Is it more powerful than old 5 years model?

I don't think there is any newer firmware for your device -- the Gen1 didn't get much love after b-rad retired.

The newer wdtv players (SMP, Liverpool) have a bit better playback suppot (mostly bugfixes for existing codecs), they don't support 4k (and probably never will), but have a lot of online services available (for now). However, online services come and go, so there are no long-terms guarantees.

If you can still play your media with Gen1 and you don't need new features, then stick with the Gen1.
